Ford Focus 1.5 Diesel

🔧 Another engine repair completed and back on the road! 🚗💨

This vehicle came into us following a failed cambelt, which had not been replaced within the manufacturer’s recommended time or mileage interval.

On this particular engine, it’s sometimes possible to get away with replacing the camshaft and rockers/lifters. However, during our leak-down test, we identified excessive leakage through the inlet system, indicating damaged inlet valves.

The cylinder head was therefore removed and sent away for new inlet valves and valve stem seals, before returning to us for a complete top-end overhaul.

The repair included:

🔧 Full cambelt & water pump kit
🔧 Full service

Ford Ranger 3.2 Wildtrak
In for some Diagnostics for smoke on start up, whistling noise and a Check over.
Under investigation we found we had excessive play within the turbo impeller causing our smoke on start up and whistling noise. Also we had some failing glow plugs so this was rectified in the same visit. We recommended an Oil & Filter change with the Turbo replacement and the customer opted to have a full service with all Filters replaced. We also sorted the TPMS light that customer wanted rectifying.

In for a Timing Chain due to an excessive rattle while running, upon strip down we could see that the Timing Chain Tensioner had fully extended and the timing had in fact moved slightly.

Guess what… Another Wetbelt!
This one comes with the warning of what happens when you neglect your service intervals…
This Customer got off lightly considering what could have been complete oil starvation to the main engine components. After the Oil light came on the Customer got in touch straight away and did not use the car until coming into the workshop.
As we can see the Oil pump strainer was completely clogged and this is to no surprise as the Vehicle hadn’t been serviced for 4years… The car was only on 50K Miles.
Servicing is advised Every Year as a minimum or 8–10K Miles which is what we Recommend.
Thankfully we managed to save this one in time by carrying out the Wetbelt Package and of course cleaning out the Turbo Filter which definitely done its job by saving the Turbo, although the Vacuum Pump one way Valve had failed.

In for investigation into a coolant leak (Diagnosed as a thermostat housing elsewhere). Under Investigation and cooling system pressure test found no external leaks and being aware of common faults on this engine a few tests were performed to confirm a potential waterpump impeller failure, strip down confirmed this to be the fault.

Audi S3 🥵
In for some Diagnostics for an intermittent Suspension light on the Dash. Under investigation we quickly found that the New Shocker that had been recently been fitted by another garage had been damaged on the electrical connector for the adaptive suspension. Not only that but an aftermarket Shocker had been used, to no surprise when a genuine one cost over £600. But we get the job done once and done right! As you can see in the photo there is a big difference in the Genuine shocker diameter 👨🏻‍🔧

In for the Wetbelt Package - Plus a few maintenance items

Customer initially came in for a Vehicle Health Check to give the Vehicle a good looking over before booking of the Wetbelt. After a ridiculous quote on the Wetbelts from Ford 🤔
We found a few additional items that would be required, some of which would be covered as part of the Wetbelt Package we offer.
Customer decided to have all recommended work carried out 👨🏻‍🔧 Managed to blow Fords quote out the Park even with all the additional work that was completed in addition to the Package 👊🏻

In for Investigation into a rattle upon cold start - Diagnosed as a failing Cam Link Chain.
Unfortunately upon removal we found wear on the Camshaft Chain Gears meaning the Camshafts required replacement alongside the Chain & Tensioner.

Ford Ranger 2.0 Ecoblue Bi-Turbo
This vehicle was recovered in due to the vehicle stalling itself upon start up. After some investigation and Diagnostics we found one of the Turbo Impellers had failed. While carrying out the repair the cause for failure needed to be looked at further and we found belt debris within the Turbo Oil feed filter/pipe causing starvation of oil to the Turbo which subsequently caused the Failure. Because of this both Wetbelts were replaced alongside an Oil pump Strainer, Full Service and a few other additional required sensors and components. Vehicle Road tested and Checked over to ensure all is good for the Customer to have their Ranger back on the road 👊🏻
