🏁 From a bare shell to the starting grid at Oulton Park.

This one is a little different from our usual race reports.

Austin-Healey Sprite #217 started life as a bare shell bought from Facebook Marketplace. Four years later, after being built at home by its owner with no previous mechanical or motorsport background, it has now completed its first competitive race weekend.

Along the way, Peter May Engineering and Midland Classic Restorations played an important role in taking the car from a home-built project to a properly prepared historic racer.

From supplying specialist parts and preparing the 1293 A-Series engine, through to rolling-road tuning, string-lining, chassis setup and technical advice, there has been plenty of work behind the scenes.

For the final step, we ran and supported the Sprite at Oulton Park for its first Midget & Sprite Challenge meeting, where car and driver successfully completed scrutineering, qualifying and both races. 👏

It’s a great example of how we can support owner-builders and newcomers to historic motorsport, not just established race cars and experienced drivers.

🏁 Success on track starts long before race day.

A huge congratulations to Connor Kay, who has recently climbed to the top of the Autosport National Rankings after an exceptional run of results across historic motorsport this season.

Connor Kay and Dominic Mooney secured 2nd overall and 1st in Class 3A at the Donington Historic Festival Pall Mall Cup in their MCR-prepared Lotus Elan 26R.

Another weekend and another 1st Place overall for the Elan 26R of Connor and James at the gtandsportscarcup 2 hour race at Silverstone !!

As well as a good weekend for the MG B of Ian Stinton and Tony Wood with it being their first weekend in the car and showing good pace already !

🏁 A massive thank you to Guy, Connor and the whole team here this weekend.

🏁 A fantastic few days at Donington with a 2nd overall and 1st in class for Connor and Dom in the Elan 26R.

🏁 Jess’s first time at Donington, with a brilliant lap time six seconds faster than qualifying. Sadly, a broken half shaft on the last lap, dropped us to 25th overall, but all smiles at the finish line!!

What a way to start the year at the opening meeting for CSCC at Donington Park , overall win for Connor and Dominic in the Tuscan in swinging 60s , pole and overall win for Connor in the elan in Midland Classic Restorations Classic K and 3rd over all for Connor in the Midget and sprite challenge !
