Pitney in for her yearly maintenance service and address some issues typical for the age and mileage of the car.

We carried out a standard service as a full was done last time with the cambelt/water pump replacement, and ticked off the list as follows -

Rocker cover gasket replacement with x4 new injector seals/o-rings/clamps

New front pads - the NSF was binding due to a snapped shim and the material was coming away from the backing plate!

Powerflex beam bushes

KA rear isolators and good condition used rear springs

New upper engine mount drivers side

We also did a little bit of rust proofing on the backs of the sills, this one is decent for a 2013 and we want it to stay that way. She doesn't know we did this for her FOC but she does now.

A lot of the issues resolved it had from last time and it should drive like a new car now!

Tyler and Carmel back at STealthwerx for some modifications this time!

Keeping it simple with an Airtec induction and white hose for Carmel, Tyler opting for ITG Air Filters CAIS and black ITG hose, and then finished off with TRS Performance STG1 calibrations for both!

One is at 38k, the other at 44k, so these are pretty low mileage these days, combine that with them both having a clean bill of healthcheck from the last visit, they logged very close to each other
!

Tyler had some additional work, with V-Maxx 35mm lowering springs, Powerflex rear beam bushes and new OEM front brakes, believe it or not, it was still on its originals from factory!

Tastefully modified and extremely well cared for, these cars were a pleasure to work on!

More power for all!

Graham contacted me with his 1.5 TDCI Focus Zetec for a STealthwerx Performance Stage 1 calibration and he came to the right place , as we have a lot of experience with diesels, in particular this DV5 unit used in many Ford and PSA models

These are 120ps and 270nm out the box, but they are not lively, there is certainly room for improvement when done right.

Our usual pre-tuning checks on this 106k, well looked after example really only had 2 things that stood out , a slightly high dpf soot loading and oil level above the max, both signs of shorter trip usage and incomplete regens

We recommended changing the oil at the same time, and once tuned we knew with no other issues present, that soot loading would drop.

And that was the case here, as once a datalog was complete, it did a regen!

A really nice bump in power to 145ps and 330nm, it's a small engine but it feels a lot bigger than it's capacity would suggest, less lag, more response, a broader torque curve and mpg will improve too.

Stage 3 conversions are definitely our favourite job on these, and this one was hugely satisfying to complete!

Will's Fiesta , who travelled 4 hours from Portsmouth is actually a very convincing conversion, but from our point of view, its treated no different.

Already a strong car with 77k on the engine and fitted up with Stage 3 suitable hardware, we spent a lot of time on the pre-tuning checks before whipping the turbo off.

We had some discrepancy on cylinder 4 with the compression reading so a number of repeated tests we done before we were happy to proceed, a stock log and ECU data read confirmed the car was on a recall Mountune file and couldnt have performed better, so we knew it would be pretty special once done.

Turbo Technics was the obvious choice for the customer, we also went a bit different on the actuator, selecting a Forge Motorsport with a custom spring and preload to suit our requirements, this was all tied together with TRS Performance STG3 software with a 1.6 bar limit that would work reliably with the stock injectors.

This actuator turned out to be a perfect match and produced the best out the box boost profile we have seen and response on the road we were after with perfect transitional driveability and that hefty kick when depressed further on the pedal, this will more than likely become our default option moving forward.

We spend a lot of time in the background making these cars drive right first and tuning according to the data we collect, it isnt guesswork, its years of R+D and testing behind the scenes that's borderline obsessive , but that meant we didnt need to do anything else software wise to optimise the end result - Perfection.

TBH, I don't think Will was expecting it to be quite as strong as this for so little boost and timing, so we have a very happy customer who was glad he made the trip!

Lovely 2015 Fiesta Titanium X in for its first wet belt replacement!

You'd think it would of been quite bad, having covered 57k it wasnt high but on age it was definitely due.

But it was really quite good, only tiny bits of residue in the oil pick up, frequent and regular oil changes really does make the difference on these.

Do you need your 1.0 Ecoboost wetbelt replacing? Prevention is always better than cure, so get in contact for our availability.

Alex's Golf GTI Performance in for a replacement clutch.

The slave cylinder had failed, causing the clutch to stick on!

Our default for these is a Sachs Organic upgrade which includes a stronger metal slave cylinder, we also replaced the flywheel at the same time as this had suffered from heat.

Once completed we carried out an extended road test before handing back to the customer.

Alex also wants a nice custom Stage 1 tune for this, so he is busy putting on a few hundred miles first before we put more power through it, I cannot imagine that will take too long so expect to see it posted again in around a week 😀

Its time for my usual highlights from the week, and here we had Nina's very clean 2017 Fiesta ST in for the following-

Cambelt and water pump replacement with Genuine Ford parts

A 'custom' service, where we will assess a vehicle once its in the workshop and replace only what needs to be done, this one requiring a standard service + pollen filter + air filter , again quality Genuine parts used and Fuchs 5w 30 913D oil.

The exhaust on this was proper rotten so we upgraded her to a Milltek Non-Resonated system.

She hasn't had the car long and didnt know a huge amount about it, but we soon told her exactly what had been done to the car!

It was running a well known name Stage 2 with an upgraded actuator, but supporting hardware had been removed.

She does run this on 99 fuel, which I would recommend to anyone on a car they have purchased with unknown history as you never know what it might be running software wise, fortunately when we looked at the ignition tables it hadn't been played with too much in this area, but the raised EGT protection and no overboost safety is definitely a concern and ideally, it could do with a proper calibration to make sure this engine lasts for the long haul.

Another thing that cropped up was the cam timing, it is not unusual to see a car with its original belt with the VVT pulleys out of sync or misaligned at the crank pulley but no codes or driving quirks, and its another good reason to bring your car to us and get it done early.

We finished off with a road datalog which confirmed what we saw on the data read and also highlighted a rattle from the wastegate, which would be as a result of insufficient preload on the uprated actuator.

Minor niggles aside, this is a very clean and straight example that needs little to make it perfect mechanically!
