2021 Audi A4 35 TFSI Hybrid in for stage 1 software.

Not all of these can be tuned at the moment, many have a locked ECU variant, however the results on these are hard to ignore.

Stock: 147hp / 199ft-lb
Tuned: 244hp / 310ft-lb

97hp and 110ft-lb gained from software alone. No hardware changes at all. That's nearly a 66% increase in power from just a remap.

The mild hybrid system still works away in the background, so you keep the efficiency too. Just a much more enjoyable car to drive.

Renault Megane RS 250 in for a custom dyno tune.

Intake and exhaust fitted, tuned on 95 RON at the customer's request.

Before: 260hp / 260ft-lb
After: 297hp / 330ft-lb

70ft-lb of extra torque is where you really feel it on these.

Could it make more on 99? Yes, but not everyone wants to rely on finding 99 every time they fill up.

Mk8 Golf R in with us recently for OEM+ ECU and TCU software.

The latest 2.0TSI EA888 Gen 4 responds incredibly well to tuning.

Most of the Golf Rs we've had on the dyno do come in a bit over the factory claimed figures, and this one was no different, starting out at 323hp and 320ft-lb.

With no hardware mods fitted at all, just the OEM+ ECU and TCU tune, it went on to make 404hp and 400ft-lb.

A massive jump from software alone on a completely standard car.

The matched TCU calibration is a big part of what makes the package work so well.

It's not just sharper shifts and better paddle response, the increased clutch pressures help the gearbox cope properly without slipping the DSG clutches.

The owner also opted for the RacingLine PDM device, which plugs into the OBD port and connects through an app.

It gives them the option to flash between the OEM+ tune and stock whenever they want, along with datalogging, fault code reading, and live data monitoring.

This Mk8 Fiesta ST 1.5T was in with us recently for a custom dyno tune.

A really nice strong car to start with, making 208hp and 220ft-lb on the stock map.

The 1.5T responds really well to just software, and with only a cat-back exhaust fitted this one went on to make 252hp and 280ft-lb once finished.

An extra 44hp and 60ft-lb in this chassis makes it a completely different car.

We also added some enhanced overrun to give it a bit more character, nothing over the top, just a slight extension of what these already do from the factory.

BMW 420d Gran Coupe in with us recently for a custom tune to suit DarkSide intake and a 3" exhaust.

This one came in with a map on it from elsewhere that wasn't right. First few runs on the dyno were all over the place, ranging between 155hp and 174hp.

Inconsistent and actually making less power than stock, we started by flashing it back to the factory map to get a clean baseline.

Once it was back to stock it settled down straight away, making 184hp consistently as it should.

From there we applied our own custom ECU and ZF gearbox tune and finished up at 245hp and 370ft-lb. A massive improvement from what was a bit of a mess when it rolled in.

Not all maps are created equal, it's certainly not the first and I doubt it will be the last mapped car we see that is less than stock power.

Mk7.5 Golf GTI in with us recently for OEM+ DQ381 gearbox software.

This was actually a completely standard car, no engine tune, no hardware changes, just the gearbox calibration on its own.

Gearbox software is one of those things that gets overlooked a lot.

Most people go straight for an engine tune and don't think about the gearbox at all until they 'have to' turn clutch pressures up to handle the extra power.

But on its own it's a bigger upgrade than people expect.

If you're used to the car and know how the gearbox behaves day to day, you'll notice it straight away.

Sharper shift points, crisper downshifts on the paddles, and generally the whole thing just feels tighter and more responsive.

There's no before and after power figures to show on this one, but not every improvement needs a graph.

It's the kind of thing you feel every time you drive the car, and once you've had it, you wouldn't want to go back.

It's been a while since we've had one of these in that didn't drive us absolutely mad with issues, so Shankar's Electric Orange ST was a nice change.

Fitted with an exhaust, intake and an Airtec Stage 2 intercooler.

Before: 238hp / 280ft-lb
After: 294hp / 380ft-lb

A massive 70hp and 100ft-lb gained between 2500 and 4500rpm.

There's more left in this one for the future too. On the stock actuator, the solenoid is already working flat out for most of the rev range but still only making 1.2 bar boost.

A Turbosmart actuator would open up a good chunk more power, and at that point it'd be worth fitting some injectors as well so they're not the next limiting factor when the airflow increases.

But for now, 294hp and 380ft-lb is more than enough to have some fun with.

Astra H VXR in with us recently for dyno tuning.

This one came in really well put together -- 3" exhaust, Airtec intercooler, cone filter, EDS inlet and a Turbosmart actuator.

No nonsense, just all the right parts fitted properly. Makes it a lot easier to get the most out of it when the hardware is already sorted.

Still on the stock map when it arrived, so there was plenty left in it.

Before: 255hp & 240ftIb
After: 314hp / 350ft-lb

The peak numbers tell part of the story, but the midrange is where you really feel it.

Around 80hp and 110ft-lb gained through the middle of the rev range.
