All that work last week and it doesn’t look any different 😂 so here’s a pic from 2012!

Can’t wait to fit the arch covers and the side decals to really finish off the look of the car, but there’s more important things to be done!

Hoping to get the Drive shafts and gear linkage done this week and take it for a small test drive, it’s first drive since 2012!

Things are really starting to ramp up on the golf now the headliner is in! I’ve got more empty boxes than full ones for the first time in a long while and whilst there’s still a way to go, I feel the end is within reach!

Let’s see if I can get this car to a show this summer!!

Keep an eye out over the next few days/weeks for more MK1 content!

So it wasn’t quite the mystery I thought, as it turns out most Mk1 owners are quite knowledgeable! If you said, and someone did lol.. “Satin Black metal flag mirrors with blue glass” then shout out to you 🎉💪

The question is, should I fit them??

MY MOST COVETED TIME CAPSULE SCORE! 🚗💨

Back in 2010, I picked up this incredible pair of New-Old-Stock (NOS) Frese Autozubehör "flag" mirrors for £180, and they are finally destined for my Mk1 Golf GTi project! Based on the iconic late-1970s German retail packaging and the 5-digit catalog part number stamped on the side (34 282), I think these beauties were manufactured somewhere between 1976 and 1980. What makes this find the absolute "holy grail" for a purist GTi restoration is that they are the ultra-rare, satin-black metal versions rather than the standard chrome.

Because the early GTi famously stripped away all shiny chrome in favor of an aggressive, sporty, blacked-out aesthetic, these heavy-duty German-made originals are the exact, perfect piece of history my car deserves.

Another quick job ticked off the list! New seals and snapped bolt sorted in one of the rear lights.

14 years with no glass, and the headliner is FINALLY in! 🙌🚗 It was a serious test of patience (and a major mess with that spray glue 😅), but the project is finally coming together.

Anyone else tackled this themselves? Post up a pic of your results and any tips you might have 👇

Who can guess what’s in these boxes!

These are one of my most treasured finds! Bought back in 2010 for what seemed like an astronomical sum of £180, based on the part number, they’re estimated to have been stored unused (New old stock) since around 1976-1980. Anyone fancy taking a guess at what they are 😊?

Feel like I’m performing open chest surgery 🤣

Getting ready to fit the interior light to the headliner, the final piece of the puzzle before attempting the windscreen.. might have to get a guy in for that one 🤣
