Round 2 of the Australian Formula Vee Series complete. This round saw ten Sabre 02 / 02B's hit the track which was wonderful to see.

Curtis Porter and Ash Quiddington both finished the weekend with round podiums. Curtis taking second place and Ash third.

A very late report for Race 1 and report for Race 2.

Unfortunately at Turn 2 in Race there was an incident between Nathan Jones and Blake Purvis. Nathan's car rode over the top of Blakes with both cars sustaining minimal damage, however the damage was such that neither could continue the race.

Race 3 had both Nathan and Blake off the back of the grid with a big job in front of them to move forward. By the end of lap 1 Blake was up to P17 and Nathan P18. Blake had a stellar Lap 2 launching himself up into P13. As the race settled into a rhythm both guys kept closing in and moving up the field. At race end, Blake crossed the line in 11th place and Nathan in 12th.

Overall a very successful weekend for both Nathan and Blake. The event served to allow the guys to compete against the best Formula Vee drivers currently going around, learning a new and tricky circuit and, continue to hone their skills. As with with all new drivers, the weekend saw errors made but with that solid learnings gained. Both Nathan and Blake made great strides forward in their driving which will serve them well at the next Victorian State Championship Round at Sandown.

Congratulations to Curtis Porter on a teriffic 3rd place recovery drive in Race 1after dropping back through the field after having to avoid a spinning car on lap 1.

Sabre Racing Cars filled positions 3 through 8 with seven cars in the top ten.

3rd - Curtis Porter
4th - Ash Quiddington
5th - Brock Hamilton
6th - Blake Purvis
7th - Nathan Jones
8th - Matthew Harriot
10th - Ash Clifford

Race 1 completed and both Nathan Jones and Blake Purvis drove fantastically given this was their first race at Sydney Motosport Park.

It was a frantic start and with a lead car coming off Nathan found himself in third place for lap 1 whilst Blake settled into sixth.

For the next few laps Nathan drifted between third and fourth places while Blake found himself in a tough battle just behind.

On lap 5 Nathan had slipped into a tight four car battle for fifth which included Blake.

On the final tour Blake managed to slip past Nathan to secure sixth place with Nathan hot on his heals taking seventh.

Both Nathan and Blake put in drives that belied their overall lack of experience and whilst doing so both setting personal best lap times.

We are really pleased to see ten Sabre 02 and 02B cars here at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend. The cars have come from across Australia having travelled from Western Australia, Queensland, Victoria and NSW.

Fantastic efforts from all of the drivers in qualifying, in particular Aaron Pace who qualified in 3rd place and who was closely followed by Curtis Porter in 5th.

Andre Curin was next in 6th, then Ash Quiddington 7th, Blake Purvis 9th, Ash Clifford 10th, Nathan Jones 11th, Matthew Harrington 12th, Brock Hamilton 14th and Rod Lisson placing 17th.

Qualifying completed and it was another good session for Nathan Jones and Blake Purvis.

Both guys did personal best times in a very strong field of cars with the best in the country all here at SMSP pumping out lap record times.

Blake setting a time of 1:48.1080 placed 9th and Nathan doing a 1:48.2590 placing himself in 11th in a 27 car field.

Good day at Sydney Motorsport Park today. Rain didn't eventuate so we had some good running. The two boys Nathan Jones and Blake Purvis improved every session, fully maximised their track time and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of another new circuit.

Qually and Race 1 tomorrow. Details on streaming on YouTube to come.

Both of the guys first time at SMSP so there will be a lot to learn as they head into round 2 of the Formula Vee Australian Series.
