Mercedes-AMG W204 C63 | Service & Inspection

This exceptionally well-kept W204 C63 AMG recently came through the workshop for its scheduled service and inspection.

With the W204 platform now becoming increasingly difficult to find in genuinely excellent condition, it’s always great to see an example like this that has clearly been cared for properly.

These cars have developed a strong following for good reason — the naturally aspirated 6.2L AMG V8, unmistakable exhaust note and old-school AMG character make the W204 C63 a very special car, and clean examples are only becoming more desirable as time goes on.

Toyota Cressida | 2JZ & Manual Swapped

This Toyota Cressida recently came through the workshop for a routine service along with a few minor upgrades.

Far from standard, this example has been 2JZ swapped and converted to manual, making it a great example of the modified and enthusiast vehicles we regularly work with.

When it comes to heavily modified cars, servicing isn't always as simple as following the original factory schedule. Engine conversions, transmission swaps, upgraded cooling systems, custom wiring, fuel systems and aftermarket components all need to be taken into consideration when maintaining the vehicle properly.

Hyundai i20 N | Performance & Interior Upgrades

This Hyundai i20 N recently visited the workshop for a selection of carefully chosen upgrades designed to improve both performance feel and driver engagement.

We installed a Pipercross intake system, providing improved airflow and a more pronounced induction note under acceleration.

A Powerflex engine mount upgrade was also fitted to help reduce excessive engine movement, resulting in a more direct and responsive feel during acceleration and gear changes.

To complete the package, the vehicle received an Alcantara steering wheel, adding a premium motorsport-inspired finish while improving grip and feel behind the wheel.

These subtle but effective upgrades complement the i20 N exceptionally well, enhancing the overall driving experience without compromising its usability as a daily vehicle.

This 2015 Nissan GT-R came to us with a common problem faced by owners of lowered performance vehicles difficulty getting over speed bumps, steep driveways and other everyday obstacles without risking damage to the front of the car.

Rather than raising the vehicle and compromising the stance the owner wanted, we provided a more practical solution by fitting a set of BC Racing coilovers together with a Stanceparts Air Cup Lift System.

The Stance air cups work in conjunction with the coilovers and allow the vehicle to be temporarily raised when extra clearance is required. At the push of a button, the system can provide up to approximately 50mm of additional lift, making steep driveways and speed bumps much easier to negotiate. Once the obstacle has been cleared, the vehicle can be returned to its normal ride height.

Paired with the BC coilovers, this setup allows the GT-R to retain the lower ride height and performance-focused suspension the owner wanted, while adding a level of practicality that makes the car far easier to use on the road.

This 1984 BMW 323i came to us with an owner who was looking for clear, practical advice on how to best maintain and preserve the vehicle.

We started with an oil service and a comprehensive mechanical inspection to establish a clear picture of the car’s overall condition. From there, we were able to identify the items that required urgent attention, separate them from the less critical repairs, and work through the recommended maintenance in a sensible order.

This Stage 2 2015 Volkswagen Golf R came to us with a significant loss of power.

The customer chose to bring the vehicle to us after being advised by the dealership that the car would first need to be returned to factory software before diagnosis could begin.

During our initial testing, we found that the electronic turbocharger actuator had failed. Rather than removing the turbocharger, we were able to replace and correctly calibrate the actuator with the turbo still fitted to the engine.

Once reassembled, the Golf R was producing power again and initially appeared to be repaired. However, during further testing the vehicle would suddenly cut power under load.

Using live diagnostic data, we could see the ECU was requesting approximately 5–7 bar of low-pressure fuel supply, but actual fuel pressure was only reaching around 1.4 bar.

Further investigation led us to remove the low-pressure fuel rail and fuel line from the pump. We found that the internal lining of a deteriorated rubber fuel hose had begun breaking down, filling the fuel system with debris and restricting fuel supply.

The injectors and fuel rail were removed and cleaned, the contaminated fuel system was cleared, and the perished hose was replaced.

With everything reassembled and tested, full power was restored.

As performance vehicles get older, faults are not always caused by the obvious components. Age-related deterioration can create unusual problems, making accurate diagnosis and live data testing extremely important before replacing parts unnecessarily.

This 2022 Hyundai Kona N is back in the workshop for a few carefully selected modifications aimed at improving exhaust note, drivetrain response and everyday usability.

XFORCE Resonator Delete
We are installing an XFORCE resonator delete to give the Kona N a deeper and more pronounced exhaust note, bringing the sound closer to the character of the i30 N while retaining the factory exhaust system and valve operation.

Powerflex Lower Torque Mount Bushes
The factory lower torque mount allows a degree of engine movement under acceleration. The Powerflex bushes help reduce this movement, resulting in a more direct drivetrain feel, improved throttle response and sharper gear changes.

Genuine Hyundai Wind Deflectors
We are also fitting genuine Hyundai wind deflectors for a clean factory appearance. They help reduce wind buffeting with the windows slightly open and provide added protection from light rain.

A well-balanced set of upgrades that improves the sound, feel and practicality of an already capable performance SUV.

This 2023 BMW Z4 came in for a carefully selected performance package designed to improve response, airflow and overall performance while retaining the refinement expected from the platform.

Powered by BMW’s B48 2.0 litre turbocharged engine, the Z4 responds exceptionally well to the right combination of hardware and software. We installed a 200 cell high flow downpipe, BMC performance panel filter and a bootmod3 OTS tune.

The high flow downpipe reduces exhaust restriction and helps the turbocharger operate more efficiently, while the BMC panel filter improves airflow while retaining the factory airbox. BMC filters use washable, reusable cotton gauze construction, making them a quality upgrade without unnecessarily replacing the complete intake system.

The bootmod3 calibration brings the package together by optimising boost, ignition timing, fuelling, throttle response and torque management.

On 98 RON fuel, a setup like this would typically be expected to produce approximately **185 to 200 kW at the rear wheels**, depending on vehicle specification, fuel quality and conditions.

The result is a sharper, stronger and more responsive Z4 while maintaining the drivability and refinement of the original car.

It's not often we see a first-generation BMW X5 (E53) come through the workshop these days, but this one arrived with a list of faults that are all too familiar for these ageing SUVs.

The dashboard was illuminated with multiple warning lights, including the 4x4 and traction control warnings, and the owner had also been experiencing an intermittent no-start condition.

As with every diagnostic job, we started by carrying out a full vehicle scan.

Our testing revealed that the steering angle sensor would stop communicating once the steering wheel was turned beyond a certain point. After removing and dismantling the sensor, we found the internal tracks had worn away over time, causing the signal to drop out.

To resolve the remaining issues, we also replaced the crank angle sensor to rectify the intermittent starting fault, cleaned corrosion from the ECU connectors to ensure reliable communication, replaced the worn gear inside the transfer case actuator motor to restore proper 4WD operation, and fitted a new ignition switch.

Although it may seem like a long list of repairs, these are all common age-related issues on the E53 X5. After more than 20 years on the road, components naturally wear out, but with the correct diagnosis and quality repairs, these vehicles can continue to provide many more years of reliable service.
