Today I got my Virginia boat safety certification. Which according to the coast guard instructor will be mandatory soon to operate a boat in the state. The book didn’t cover about a third of the test questions.

Fortunately, the coast guard lieutenant was very knowledgeable as were many in the class who already owned boats. The class is free to all and the better option than the online course IMO.

If they give you the option to take the class open or closed book take it closed. Passing for the open book test is 90% for closed its 78% on 60 questions.

In general, we Virginian bikers ride year round. That said, the peak motorcycle season for 2019 is coming quickly. Veteran bikers keep your eyes out for the new riders. We want them to join us and enjoy the ride like we have for years. Show your love and protection and ride safe; ride well.

I was looking at the language of the Virginia moped certification form. I did not realize helmets were optional or that a vehicle below 50cc engine size not exceeding 35mph were allowed on the highway.
