The Petty Family founded Petty Engineering in 1949 on the same property that today turns out performance automobiles for the street as Petty's Garage. Petty's Garage is a high-performance speed shop originally founded by Richard Petty in 2008 as an expansion of his competitive career and ambition to find ways to continue to win both on and off the track. Richard Petty has been building hot rods ever since his childhood bicycle wouldn’t go fast enough. Performance vehicles or stock cars, Richard Petty’s life has been built around production and driving high quality vehicles. This 1970 Camaro used to take an absolute eternity to hit 60 mph. We are officially fixing that problem.

The customer gave us a clear mission: forget the show, give me the go.

We are transforming this classic by dropping in a 427-inch small block Chevrolet stroker crate engine and converting it from an automatic to a six-speed manual.

To make sure all that new power actually hooks to the pavement, we added a 9-inch Ford rear end with a Track-Lock unit, installed a CalTrac suspension system, bolted on big brakes, and tied the frame together for maximum strength. Parts are in, installation is underway, and we're about a week away from the ultimate test drive.

One year, one shop, and an unforgettable lineup of legendary builds.

We officially hit our 1-year milestone in this building, so we walked the shop floor to ask the team which machine stole their heart over the past 365 days. From a Gen 3 Hemi-powered Super Bee and a '67 Porsche 911 to a pristine '66 GTO and a freshly transformed '67 Belvedere, the crew has thrown down serious sweat equity into some incredible metal. We're incredibly grateful to everyone who supported us during this first chapter.

Now we look ahead to making year two even more legendary.

Factory trucks always sport body-matched door interiors, but we are breaking the rules for this C10 project.

Instead of the standard factory look, we formulated a custom chocolate brown paint to perfectly match the owner's leather interior swatch. We coated the interior cab, dash, and headliner in this uniform hue, creating a seamless transition to the blue exterior paint starting right at the door line. It mimics modern car design principles and injects a unique level of detail into this classic restoration.

How do you judge the true caliber of a restoration shop? Look at the areas most people never see.

Unlike many GM models, these classic Chryslers lack inner fender liners. Leaving the back side of the fenders completely smooth invites rock chips that eventually ruin your exterior paint. To prevent this, we applied a specialized textured finish to the inner fenders to shield the metal on future drives, along with a full coat of internal paint to fight corrosion and make cleanup effortless.

From slick, smooth clear coats on every hidden edge of the hood and trunk lid to thoroughly coating every factory hole, these interior sections require some of the most grueling work of any paint job.

When choosing a shop for your classic, check the undersides and hidden crevices. The level of detail tucked away in those corners tells you everything you need to know about the build quality.

Imagine walking out to a custom '69 Camaro on graduation day.

A dedicated father is teaming up with The Legendary Garage to build the ultimate graduation gift for his son. We are transforming this iconic muscle car into a sleek pro-touring machine, pairing upgraded suspension with a small-block Chevrolet engine. For the styling, we are going with a charcoal gray finish, bold black stripes, and muted chrome accents.

We are only about ten days into the build, but the team is already hard at work straightening panels and perfecting the body gaps. We love bringing special family projects to life, whether that's restoring a family heirloom or creating a dream build.

Two Trans Am racing icons, one garage, and 15 years of dust waiting to be cleared.

We just rolled two legends from the pinnacle of 1970s Trans Am racing into the shop: a beautiful Grabber Blue 1970 Boss 302 Mustang and a striking yellow 1970 AAR Cuda.

Both of these historic machines sat idle for the last 12 to 15 years, but their deep sleep ends today. Instead of a full teardown, we are executing a strict preservation strategy. We will completely overhaul the mechanics to get them functioning perfectly, while keeping and polishing that irreplaceable original paint.

We'll also keep features like the Cuda’s fiberglass hood, side exhaust, and 340 six-pack, and the Mustang's reflective black stripes, honoring every bit of racetrack history right here at the Legendary Garage.
