I normally try to stay out of political, religious or celebrity/hot button topics. I am a simple nobody from nowhere to most and pretty happy about that. I do however feel like id like to state my view and opinion on some recent tragic events and where I stand. We watched a girl that came to our great country to escape violence and death fatally stabbed for being white by a deranged person. We see another school shooting take place by an over medicated and under disciplined person. Sadly those events have become somewhat callous to us as a nation it seems. We talk about it and bemoan the fact that it happened but very little real tangible change takes place. Discussion over solutions turns to argument and from argument to hatred of the other person for their opinion and belief. I do not pretend to have any answers but what I do know is that change and progress cannot happen without open, honest, hard conversation and debate.
We just watched a young man assassinated for his beliefs from a distance by a terroristic coward in front of his wife and kids. I have seen quite a few of Charlie's videos and exchanges with people that had opposing views and I only ever saw him be understanding, honest and open. He was a man of faith, very vocal on his beliefs, and always willing and eager to have the hard discussions. If his words hurt so much that he was shot for them I believe its because what he was saying was true. You can shrug off a lie and say meh isnt true, didnt happen and truth will come out. Truth stands on business all ten toes ten times out of ten. A quiet truth trumps a loud lie every time. This is a nation founded on freedom of religion and belief, right to say what you think without fear. If we as a nation stray from that principle we follow every failed social experiment in history. Left or right, red or blue. We owe it to those before us who fought and bled and to those after us to preserve this union. Discourse is the only way we make lasting change. Shooting a messenger is like being upset at a nail you think is misplaced so you hit it with a hammer. Makes you feel good for a second but makes the actual construction you are against stronger.
