🚗 Fun Fact Friday! 🚗

Did you know cruise control was invented by a man who was blind? 👀

Ralph Teetor invented cruise control in the 1940s after getting frustrated riding with a driver who kept speeding up and slowing down while talking! 😅

Even more impressive — Ralph lost his sight at just 5 years old, but that didn’t stop him from becoming a brilliant automotive engineer and inventor.

His invention was first introduced in a Chrysler Imperial and originally called “Auto-Pilot.” Today, cruise control helps drivers enjoy smoother, more comfortable road trips everywhere. 🚘✨

The first real automobile was invented by Karl Benz in 1886! His invention, the Benz Patent-Motorwagen, was powered by a gasoline engine and is considered the world’s first modern car.

Believe it or not, it had 3 wheels instead of 4 and looked more like a horse carriage than the cars we drive today. 😄

Imagine pulling up next to that at a stoplight! 🚦

The highest mileage car in the world is a 1966 Volvo P1800, and it didn’t just go the distance… it went legendary. It holds a Guinness World Record with over 3.25 million miles (about 5.23 million km) driven!

The man behind the wheel was Irv Gordon, a science teacher from New York who treated his Volvo like a lifelong companion. Through careful maintenance, smooth driving, and tons of long-distance cruising, he turned this car into a true endurance champion.

And here’s the wild part 👇
The original engine stayed with the car the whole time—but it was rebuilt twice: once at 675,000 miles and again in 2009.

From 1966 all the way until 2018, this Volvo just kept going and going… proving that with the right care, some things really are built to last. 🚘💪
