Lots of autosport racecar looms lately – this one is one of the larger ones.
Practically every pin on every device is used.
The Life Racing F88 ecu runs a twin turbo V8 with each bank run separately with a Drive by wire motor, MAP sensor, air temp, EGT, Lambda, & boost solenoid for each bank as well as 4 knock sensors & VVT. It also manages paddleshift, antilag, traction control & launch control.

The Life racing PDUx2b power distribution unit looks after the cars power supply as well as adding extra sensors such as a fuel level sensor for both the main tank & surge pot with dynamic filtering for the fuel level so the reading reacts fast during fill up but is heavily filtered when the car is moving to give a sensible reading.

The driver is kept informed via the Motec C125 dash with intelligent alarms that display which protection mode the Life ECU has invoked. Switch control is via a Apex CAN bus steering wheel with lots of switches & rotary switches for traction control, boost/strategy select, launch strategy and antilag strategy.

The icing on the cake is one of our ATE Motorsport ABS units.
With all of the proper gear it should make for quite a handy racecar.

The Good, the Bad & the Ugly

Starting with the Good. It has been 2 years since I installed our Motorsport ABS system & have the car ready to go but haven’t been able to get to the track since then – so it was great to get to have a drive & try it out. On the first clear lap it immediately did a personal best with a very untidy lap so the Motorsport ABS definitely made a big difference. (lap in video).

Now the Bad. After that short session I headed out again to try for a 1:24 which should have been easily achievable if I could stitch a tidy lap together. Hit the brakes into Pothole then bang – driveshaft blew in half and the gearbox input shaft blew out of the front of the gearbox shattering the bellhousing. You can actually see the end of the driveshaft flying out the front of the car in the video.

Then the Ugly. Looking at the damage. I have posted the pictures in the comments section. Lots of stuff wrecked.

As well as full Autosport spec wirng looms for race cars we also do classic road car wiring looms for all years & makes.
This example was for a 1972 Mazda RX2 coupe. As you can see from the pictures the original loom was definitely showing its 50 years of age & 50 years of bodgy bullet connectors, twisted together wires & tape and was starting to cause problems.

From repairing & restoring the original to a complete replacement loom using milspec wire & either period correct loom covering or millspec DR25 heatshrink.

We also offer options regarding power management using period suitable relays & fuses or discreetly hiding a contemporary PDM/PDU (power distribution unit).

We can even install, wire & dyno tune aftermarket engine management to make it as nice to drive as your modern daily driver, or engine management solutions for a modern engine/trans transplant – options from Motec, Life Racing & MaxxECU.
