A 10 seater, 4x4 Toyota Hiace van is making a world of difference for these Kaikōura Families. They're still recovering from the extreme weather of July 2026 that washed out Cribb Creek Bridge, cutting them off from their regular school bus route.

We've provided a van to the Kaikōura District Council to use, and the impacted families have created a driving roster to get all the kids on the school route to and from the bus each day. This is a true community solution, and we're proud to play our part.

Today was the first day of the new school run for these Kaikōura families.

Roughly two months’ worth of rain fell in the Kaikōura region between 5 and 8 July, washing out roads and cutting off communities. The regular school bus cannot cross the temporary ford created to replace the washed out Cribb Creek Bridge. Parents have been driving for hours to get their children to a pick-up point where the bus can continue its normal route.

We've provided a 4WD 10-seat Toyota Hiace to the Kaikōura District Council , for the families to use as a temporary bus replacement. Parents have organised a roster to take turns driving the school run, saving affected families more than two hours a day in travel time, plus fuel costs.

“A school run might seem like a small issue within the wider recovery, but for these families, this vehicle is a real lifeline—giving them back valuable time, reducing costs and easing one of the many pressures they continue to face,” says Kaikōura District Council Recovery Manager Jo York.
