Sunset Coast BMX Club has been a club in the BMX family for 30+ years. Located on Attewell Road in Puni we are open to all ages, abilities and disabilities. Our Facility is one of a kind with its two seperate tracks, An 8 metre ramp for our Elite riders and a 5 metre ramp for our youngest little racers. Many strong individuals within the club have been at the forefront of BMX in NZ, from National

or International Coach’s, officials, World officials and Sporting Commissars. These same experienced individuals now play a critical role in the club, future planning and day to day operations. We challenge ourselves to not only be a track that encourages kids to have fun while riding bikes, but also encourages sportsmanship, balance, motorskills, communication and bike safety. BMX is truly a family sport, our youngest riders are as young as two years old and alongside them is their family members in their 40s. We run club nights every Wednesday night where your children are welcome to come JOIN IN, GET ACTIVE, AND GET INVOLVED. HOW OUR TRACK CAME ABOUT -

In 2007 the club decided to take up a new piece of land in Puni, in May 2008 dirt was turned and in February 2010 the club was too host its first race meeting on its truly International venue. Easter 2010, Sunset Coast BMX Club successfully host it’s first NZ National Championship event, our first major meeting in 30 years. Following on from this event, our facility has been utilised by BMXNZ to host the Pacific Oceanic Championships and International Test Team training as well as a number of development based camps and coaching clinic’s. This track has two separate tracks, amateur and elite, both constructed within the one design. Unique slideable jumps seen for the first time at our facility and now seen overseas at International Events Centres around the globe. Recent track developments include both Amateur 5 metre high and Elite 8 metre high start ramps and gates taking our track and facility to a completely new level with the rider and continual improvement and development at the forefront. This track design and facility development was lead through our clubs initiative to excel at the sport of BMX. Our Track has state of the art drainage with tar sealed burms on four corners, complimented by public viewing from all points of the venue , creating a great spectator awareness of BMX racing at its best. Our half-season membership discounts are now active for the remainder of the 2026 season (through to 31 December), making it more affordable to get involved.

Not sure if BMX is for you? That's okay! New riders are welcome to enjoy up to three trial sessions before deciding whether to become a member.

Now that everyone is home and the dust has settled, it's the perfect time to look back on an unforgettable week at the 2026 UCI BMX World Championships in Brisbane.

For one incredible week, Sunset Coast BMX was proudly represented on the world stage by Zoe Hartwell, Finn Berrington and Hattie Berrington. Whether they were exploring local tracks, lining up on the gate, cheering on fellow Kiwis or proudly flying the Sunset Coast flag, they represented our club with pride every step of the way. All three riders took on the challenge of racing both Cruiser and 20-inch – no mean feat at a World Championships.

Zoe once again led by example, showing the determination and sportsmanship that make her such a fantastic role model for our younger riders. It was an outstanding achievement to race her way into the Cruiser semi-final, mixing it with the very best in the world and making our whole club incredibly proud.

For Finn, it was a week of firsts. A highlight was lining up against the 2025 World Champion in his very first 20-inch moto. He embraced every opportunity, raced with confidence and soaked up every moment of his first World Championships experience.

Hattie showed the resilience we've all come to know. After being caught up in a crash in her 20-inch quarter-final, she picked herself up, finished the race with a smile, and although we'll never know what might have been, what we do know is that she came home loving BMX more than ever.

While we're proud of the results, we're even prouder of the way these three represented Sunset Coast BMX. They showed courage, sportsmanship, determination and a genuine love for the sport, creating memories that will stay with them for a lifetime and giving our whole club something to be proud of.

Congratulations, Zoe, Finn and Hattie. Thank you for wearing the silver fern with pride and for representing Sunset Coast BMX so incredibly well. We loved following your journey and can't wait to see what comes next.
