One of this week’s jobs involved some major work on a Range Rover Sport SDV6 🔧
The vehicle was presented with knocking and grinding noises while driving, accompanied by an intermittent suspension warning on the instrument cluster.
Following a full diagnostic assessment, we identified a significant fault within the vehicle’s Active Roll Control (ARC) system. Inspection revealed that the hydraulic pipes supplying the ARC system had suffered from advanced corrosion, resulting in hydraulic fluid loss and a subsequent drop in system pressure.
The ARC system relies on hydraulic pressure to operate the active anti-roll bars and control body movement during cornering and uneven road conditions. As the hydraulic fluid level and pressure deteriorated, the ARC units were no longer able to operate correctly. This ultimately resulted in the internal rubber components within the ARC bars becoming dry and seized, contributing to the abnormal knocking and grinding noises reported by the customer.
This was a substantial repair requiring the replacement of the affected ARC bars, pipework, and associated components, followed by system bleeding, pressure checks and diagnostic calibration to ensure the active suspension system was operating correctly.
