Some vehicles come to us and immediately remind us of the weight of this work. 🙏

This Ford Explorer ST had barely left the dealership lot. It was on a test drive when it struck a deer — and the damage that followed touched nearly every system on the vehicle. Structural, mechanical, electrical, and safety. Brand new, and already facing a repair assessment that most vehicles never see in a lifetime.

That's what drives every decision our team makes from the moment a vehicle arrives — not the fastest path, not the cheapest solution, but the honest one.

After a thorough teardown and structural assessment, this Explorer was determined to be a total loss. And while that's never the outcome anyone hopes for — especially on a vehicle that hadn't even been purchased yet — it's sometimes the most important conclusion a proper inspection can reach.

Here's something worth knowing: a total loss determination isn't a failure — it's integrity. When the cost to restore a vehicle to a genuinely safe, pre-accident condition exceeds its value, calling it a total loss protects everyone involved. It means no one drives away in something that was patched together rather than truly repaired.

Deer season is closer than most people think. 🦌 If your vehicle is involved in a deer strike — whether it looks minor or significant — please have it properly inspected. Deer impacts transfer force in unexpected directions and the damage isn't always where you'd expect to find it.

At Stephens Collision Repair, we'll always give you the honest answer. Even when it's a hard one.
