Power steering pump on a 2005 Sport Trac 4.0 V6, and the tool trick that saves you from pulling the fan shroud.
Anytime you do this job on a Sport Trac, Mountaineer, or earlier 4.0L Ford, the wall you hit is the hard line. It's tucked in a spot where a normal ratchet won't fit, and the obvious move is to pull the whole fan shroud to get at it. That turns a one-hour job into a three-hour job.
Better way: crow's foot wrench, one-inch extension, 3/8 ratchet. Slide the crow's foot onto the fitting, the extension keeps the ratchet clear of the shroud, and you crack the line loose without touching the cooling system.
Three 10mm bolts hold the pump itself. Return hose comes off the back. New pump goes in, bleed the system, done.
This same tip works on the Mountaineer and earlier Sport Tracs that share the same engine layout.
