2018 Mercedes C300 in the Universal Studios area, car cut off while driving with a nasty noise. Here's what was actually going on.

The complaint was simple: car shut off while driving, grinding noise from the engine bay. On a modern Mercedes, that combination has a specific chain of cause and effect.
We found the alternator coming apart internally, metal fragments visible from the pulley rubbing on itself. A failing alternator like that doesn't just stop charging, it shreds the serpentine belt and drains the AGM battery in the process. The battery on this C300 was reading 3 volts. Every other pulley spun smooth, so the rest of the accessory drive was fine.
Repair plan: new alternator, new belt, new AGM battery (covered under our in-house warranty).
Bonus finding while we were under the hood: oil came out sludgy from prior-owner neglect. The current owner inherited it, but it's something to watch. Get your oil changes, folks.

Valve cover gasket job on a 2016 Ram 1500 5.7 HEMI today, full repair done right in the driveway.
If you drive a Ram HEMI and you've been chasing a burning oil smell after long drives, this is usually the culprit. The valve cover gasket gives up, oil seeps out, and gravity drops it right onto the hot exhaust manifold. On some HEMIs it can also work its way down into the spark plug tubes, which is where those random misfires start coming from. Here's what we did on this 2016 Ram: pulled the ignition coils and cleared the top of the engine, removed the valve cover, cleaned the mating surface back to bare metal, set the new gasket, reinstalled the cover, and torqued the bolts to spec (these are easy to over-tighten and crack, torque matters). Reassembled, ran the truck, and confirmed no leaks. This is one of those jobs people assume has to go to a shop. It doesn't, we did it in the customer's driveway, no tow, no waiting room. Brake pads, rotors, and brand new hardware on a 2022 Kia Sportage in Winter Garden today.
Here's the part most shops cut corners on, the hardware. Abutment clips corrode, slide pins dry out, and shims fatigue over time. Slap new pads onto worn hardware and you get sticking calipers, uneven wear, and that brake pulsation everyone wrongly blames on warped rotors.
On this Sportage we installed new pads and rotors, replaced the clips and shims, cleaned and re-greased the slide pins with high-temp synthetic, torqued everything to spec, and bedded the pads in before we handed the keys back. All of it done right in the customer's driveway in Winter Garden. No tow, no waiting room.

2018 Chevy Equinox LT with the 1.5 turbo came onto our schedule in Winter Park. Customer's complaint: a strong fuel smell from the engine bay and a massive fuel leak they could see on the ground.
We traced it to fuel injector number 2. The injector body was wet, the surrounding area was caked with dried fuel residue, and the leak path was unmistakable once we cleaned the area and watched the engine run.
A leaking fuel injector is not a wait-and-see problem. Raw fuel under the hood is a fire hazard. It also drips onto the serpentine belt, which weakens the rubber and shortens the belt's life. Catch it now, replace the injector, clean and inspect the belt, and the truck goes back to being safe to drive.

2016 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 3.6 Pentastar V6 came onto our schedule for a serpentine belt and idler pulley replacement. Easy job on paper, frustrating job under the hood.
Dodge packed a lot of engine into a tight bay on this generation of Ram. The idler pulley sits in a spot that fights you the whole way. You can see it, you can almost reach it, but the wrench angle is wrong and the next bolt over is in the way. It's the kind of job that takes longer than the book time says because the engine bay was designed for the people who built it, not the people who fix it.
Did we still get it done? We did. New belt, new idler, truck back together, customer back on the road.

2020/21 Toyota Corolla on our schedule today for a battery replacement and an oil change in one mobile visit. Both jobs done in the customer's driveway, both reported to Carfax.
A battery in Florida runs about three years on average before the heat catches up to it. The original battery on this Corolla was at the end of that window. The customer had been noticing slightly slower cranks in the morning, the first sign the battery is on its way out. Replace it now and you skip the no-start morning before it happens.
While we were under the hood we did the oil and filter too. Two jobs, one visit, no time off work for the customer.

Mobile oil change on a 2017 BMW X3 in Lee Vista. Here's a small thing that matters more than people realize: how the oil filter goes back on after the change.
The BMW canister-style filter sits in a housing on top of the engine. The trick is to get the new filter seated cleanly, the O-rings on the cap fresh and in their grooves, and the cap torqued to spec. Skip the O-ring check and you get a slow oil seep that drips down the side of the block. Over-tighten the cap and you damage the housing threads.
Small detail, expensive comeback if it's done wrong. We do it right the first time.

2020 Subaru Crosstrek came onto our schedule for rear brakes and an oil change. Both sides got new pads and rotors. The right rear was a normal worn-out job. The left rear was a different story, one of the brake pads had fallen out of the caliper entirely. Metal on rotor, no pad in the middle. The damage was a lot worse on that side.
A brake pad doesn't fall out on a healthy caliper. The clips and slides have to be worn or missing for a pad to escape. Once it's out, the caliper piston pushes the backing plate straight into the rotor. The result is a rotor that gets eaten faster than normal and a caliper that may need to be inspected for its own damage.
We caught it on this Crosstrek before the rotor was destroyed beyond replacement and before the caliper had to come off. The right side got the standard refresh. The left side got the refresh plus a thorough hardware check.
