Power steering pump on a 2005 Sport Trac 4.0 V6, and the tool trick that saves you from pulling the fan shroud.

Anytime you do this job on a Sport Trac, Mountaineer, or earlier 4.0L Ford, the wall you hit is the hard line. It's tucked in a spot where a normal ratchet won't fit, and the obvious move is to pull the whole fan shroud to get at it. That turns a one-hour job into a three-hour job.

Better way: crow's foot wrench, one-inch extension, 3/8 ratchet. Slide the crow's foot onto the fitting, the extension keeps the ratchet clear of the shroud, and you crack the line loose without touching the cooling system.

Three 10mm bolts hold the pump itself. Return hose comes off the back. New pump goes in, bleed the system, done.

This same tip works on the Mountaineer and earlier Sport Tracs that share the same engine layout.

Customer told us their 2013 Chevy Express 3500 was backfiring. They weren't kidding. The thing sounded like a gunshot.

We've heard a lot of engine noises in this job. This one was up there. A backfire that loud is unburned fuel reaching the exhaust system in big enough quantities that when it finally ignites, the bang is the kind that makes the neighborhood stop what they're doing.

And it's not a small problem. A backfire that big on a Vortec V8 is usually pointing at an ignition issue, a vacuum leak, a fuel mixture problem, or a damaged exhaust valve. Left alone, it'll cook the catalytic converter (which is a several-thousand-dollar part on this generation), and eventually damage the valves too.

The right answer is diagnosis. Not parts-cannon. Scan for codes, check freeze frame data, pull plugs, smoke-test the intake, check fuel pressure. Find the actual cause, fix the actual cause.

We come to where the van is parked. Mobile diagnostics for commercial fleets and individual customers across Central Florida.

Every service reported to Carfax.

Customer left for vacation with a misfiring BMW 228i, came home to a fixed car and her keys back in the house.

This is the kind of service request only mobile auto repair can do. The customer's 2016 BMW 228i had a bad misfire. She was leaving for a trip and didn't want to coordinate a shop drop-off around her travel plans. So she told us, "Come do the plugs and coils while I'm gone. Pull the car cover, do the work, put the cover back, leave the keys inside."

We did exactly that. Pre-scan showed multiple misfire codes, cylinder 2 plus several cylinders, with the dreaded "damaging exhaust gas after starting up" flag (raw fuel into the cat). Installed the customer-provided plugs and coils, including the back plug that has to be carefully snaked into a tight well without closing up the gap. Post-scan came back clean across every module.

Cover went back on, keys back in the house. She came home to a car that was sorted.

See this white-green powder on your battery terminal? It's not cosmetic, it's killing your charging system.

That powdery buildup is electrical corrosion. It forms when a battery slowly leaks acid past its seal, and the reaction with the lead and copper in your terminal creates a high-resistance layer between the cable and the battery post. Here's what that means in practice: your alternator has to work harder to push current through the bad connection. Over time, the alternator wears out faster, the battery itself gets damaged, and eventually the car won't start. By that point you're paying for a battery, the terminal hardware, and possibly an alternator, when catching it early could have saved most of that. The right fix is three steps: replace the battery (the leak isn't going to fix itself), inspect the terminal clamp and hardware (corrosion eats into the metal, and a clamp that won't hold torque means a comeback), and test the alternator output and ripple to make sure it hasn't been damaged by the extra workload. We do this in the driveway. The car doesn't need to start. Every service reported to Carfax. Serving Central Florida.

Fleet tire rotation on an overweight dually, catching the wear pattern early just bought this operator another 35,000 miles of tire life.

When a dually runs heavy, the outer tires wear faster than the inner tires. The geometry of an overloaded rear axle puts more load on the outer position, and you end up with two tires near the wear bars while the inner tires still have half their tread left.
Rotated the right way, that wear pattern resets. The inner tires (with more remaining tread) move to the outer position, and you get the full life out of the set instead of replacing tires before half of them are used.
This one was at 35,000 miles. After the rotation, we expect another 35,000 out of the same set.
We do fleet maintenance, DOT inspections, and scheduled service routes for fleet operators across Central Florida. We come to where the trucks are parked, so they don't lose road time.

Carvana rejected this customer's car in Sanford over grinding brakes, we came out to the driveway and saved the sale.

Online buyers like Carvana inspect every car before they close the deal, and brakes are one of the top reasons they walk away. This customer's offer was contingent on new pads and rotors all the way around. Without the brake job, no sale. We came to their driveway in Sanford and did all four corners on the spot. New pads, new rotors, new hardware, proper torque, controlled bed-in. The car never left their property, no shop appointment, no waiting room, and they were back to coordinating the Carvana pickup the same day. If you're selling a car and the brakes are grinding, this is exactly the situation mobile service is built for. Every service reported to Carfax. Serving Sanford, Lake Mary, Longwood, Heathrow, Winter Springs, and the rest of Central Florida. 📞 (321) 466-5222 📅 https://johnnyonthego.shopmonkey.cloud/request_appointment. 2018 Mercedes C300 alternator replacement, the repair side of the charging system story.

Remember that C300 that shut off while driving, failed alternator, shredded belt, dead AGM battery? Here's the repair.
Brand new Valeo OEM alternator in (same supplier Mercedes used at the factory, off-brand replacements in this slot are a known source of repeat failures). About 2.5 hours start to finish on the M274 turbo. The alternator has to come up through a specific path, looks like another route should work, but only one actually clears. Cleared the stored codes from memory once everything was verified.
178,000 miles on this C300 and it's still going. The customer just bought it from someone who skipped oil changes for years, we're putting it on a 2,500-mile interval and an engine flush going forward to slow the sludge damage.

Chevy Silverado code scan and alternator replacement in Windermere, done in the driveway, start to finish.

Customer called for a code scan and diagnosis. We brought the scan tool, the battery and charging tester, the OBD live-data setup, and the flashlight, and went to work.
Codes pointed at the charging system. Before replacing anything, we verified: battery healthy, grounds clean, belt and tensioner good, alternator output inconsistent with ripple out of range. That's a confirmed alternator, not a guess.
Replaced the alternator, cleared the codes, ran the truck through a verification cycle, confirmed everything was charging correctly with no faults pending. Job done.

Pre-purchase inspection in West Orlando today, over an hour combing through a vehicle so the buyer didn't have to guess.

A used car listing tells you what the seller wants you to know. A Carfax tells you what's been reported. Neither tells you what the car actually is, mechanically, right now. That's what a pre-purchase inspection does. We came out to West Orlando for a customer who wanted a real third-party opinion before they signed anything. Full exterior, interior, under-hood, undercarriage, scan-tool data, and test drive. Over an hour of work. Honest write-up at the end. The cost of a PPI is a fraction of what one missed issue can cost the buyer after the sale. We come to the seller's location so you don't have to coordinate anything. Every service reported to Carfax. Serving West Orlando, Dr. Phillips, Windermere, MetroWest, and the rest of Central Florida. 📞 (321) 466-5222 📅 https://johnnyonthego.shopmonkey.cloud/request_appointment. We bring the SHOP to YOU.

2018 Mercedes C300 in the Universal Studios area, car cut off while driving with a nasty noise. Here's what was actually going on.

The complaint was simple: car shut off while driving, grinding noise from the engine bay. On a modern Mercedes, that combination has a specific chain of cause and effect.
We found the alternator coming apart internally, metal fragments visible from the pulley rubbing on itself. A failing alternator like that doesn't just stop charging, it shreds the serpentine belt and drains the AGM battery in the process. The battery on this C300 was reading 3 volts. Every other pulley spun smooth, so the rest of the accessory drive was fine.
Repair plan: new alternator, new belt, new AGM battery (covered under our in-house warranty).
Bonus finding while we were under the hood: oil came out sludgy from prior-owner neglect. The current owner inherited it, but it's something to watch. Get your oil changes, folks.
