This was a special project. 1967 Chevelle SS 396.
The original concern was the customer could not shift in to gear without grinding. The clutch was adjusted all the way out. The verdict was the throw out bearing. It had failed and started to eat away at the clutch fork causing the clutch stay engaged even when adjusting all the way out and pedal to the floor. New clutch kit and fork were needed.
The customer also wanted to take care of the oil leaks while we had everything apart. The oil pan and rear main were leaking. Drained the oil and it has some glitter in the filter. The Rear main seal on this engine it is a 2 piece seal and you have to take off the main cap for the crank shaft to replace it. Once we got the cap off we saw were the glitter came from chewed up the bearing from running on low oil is my educated guess. We did a set of bearings for the crank and pistions while we were this far. For this car you can actually pull off the job with the engine in the car it was a big plus for time and space.
Once it was all back together. Did the break in drive for the new bearings, changed the oil ,no glitter, no leaks, and no grinding of the gears. It drove smooth. This was a amazing experience to have my dad tell me storys about how when these cars were all over the roads.
Thank you eddie for trusting me with this very unique project. being able to repair and drive this piece of American history.
