🚗 "Why does it cost money just to check my check engine light?" 🤔

We get asked this question all the time, so here's a little insight.

When your check engine light, ABS light, airbag light, or other warning light comes on, the vehicle has to be connected to professional diagnostic equipment. While a basic code reader can tell you what code is stored, it does NOT tell us what part is bad.
Our technicians have to:
🔧 Connect advanced scan tools.
🔧 Read and interpret the stored codes.
🔧 Analyze live data from the vehicle.
🔧 Perform testing to pinpoint the actual cause of the problem.
🔧 Use their training and experience to determine the correct repair.
You're not paying for someone to simply "plug in a scanner." You're paying for the knowledge, equipment, and time it takes to accurately diagnose your vehicle. Proper diagnostics help prevent replacing unnecessary parts, which can save you money in the long run.

At Bouch’s Automotive, we want to remind everyone that getting your NYSI (New York State Inspection) done should not be a last-minute priority.

Your vehicle inspection is important because it helps ensure your car is safe to drive by checking key components such as brakes, tires, lights, steering, suspension, and more.

Please keep in mind that inspection appointments fill up quickly, especially during busy times. We strongly encourage you to check your inspection sticker and schedule your appointment early.

Waiting until the last minute can create unnecessary stress for both you and the shop. While we always do our best to accommodate our customers, our schedule can fill fast.

Please remember: if you wait until the last minute and we are unable to get you in right away, it is not because we don’t want to help—it simply means our schedule is full.

Planning ahead helps keep your vehicle safe, legal, and on the road.

Friendly reminder about oil changes 🚗🛠️

When you get your oil changed and we put that little sticker in the top corner of your windshield, it’s not just a suggestion — it’s there for a reason. That mileage is typically when you should be getting your next oil change.

Going 50–100 miles over? Usually not a huge deal.

But when you go thousands of miles past your scheduled oil change, you’re risking serious engine issues — and those repairs can cost a whole lot more than routine maintenance.

Also… when you come in with engine issues after putting off maintenance, please remember:
“I didn’t drive it, and I didn’t cause the problem.”

So don’t get mad at the girl upfront for the bad news. If anything, be mad at yourself for ignoring the warning signs.

Regular maintenance saves money. Neglect gets expensive.

Living in WNY means dealing with rust….and lots of it. Unfortunately, that means what should be a simple 1.5-hour brake job can quickly turn into a 2, 3, or even 4-hour job. And that goes for many other repairs on a vehicle too

Rust has a way of turning “simple” jobs into major headaches.

Our customers are always our first priority, and we work hard to get every vehicle repaired and back on the road as quickly as possible. But sometimes between unexpected complications during a repair and waiting on parts to arrive, jobs can take longer than expected. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding.

Also, when you start hearing a noise, call your mechanic of choice and try to get in as soon as possible. Please don’t wait until you can barely drive it anymore. Catching issues early can save you time, money, and prevent bigger problems down the road.

And yes….this post is written by the lady at the front desk, and trust me—I’m just as frustrated about it all as the rest of you! 😅
