Congratulations to Mason Zeigler Racing on the win 🏆

Mason Zeigler WINS Second Annual “Dave Kittey Memorial” In The Jay's automotive United Late Model Series Opening Event of 2025 at Latrobe Speedway!

Chalk Hill, Pennsylvania native Mason Zeigler swept the night piloting his Rocket Chassis to Close Racing Supply Victory Lane to start off his Championship Chase for the 25th Anniversary Season of the Jay’s Automotive United Late Model Series last night at Latrobe Speedway.

With sixteen entries signed in for competition, the Jay’s Automotive United Late Model Series set out for Qualifying that saw Zeigler set quick time over Alex "A-Train" Ferree and Brock Pinkerous. Zeigler and Pinkerous, both 2025 United Late Model Series “Elite Drivers” would lead the field to green in heat race number one. Zeigler was quick to put himself out front of the field while behind him Sattelee worked his way around the #555 of Pinkerous. Dylan Lewis would be a DNS succumbing to a broken rocker arm in hot laps. As the field singled out, it was Zeigler who would take the checkered flag over second running Satterlee and Pinkerous in third. Alex Ferree and defending 2024 United Late Model Series Champion Michael Lake led the field to green in heat race number two. Lake jumped out to the early lead over Ferree on the initial start and led wire to wire over second running Ferree and Dan Angelicchio in third. Redraw saw the top two finishers in each heat pull for position one-four in the “Second Annual Dave Kittey Memorial”. Lake snagged the top spot with Satterlee, Zeigler, and Ferree claiming second through fourth.

Lake led the field to green in the thirty lap Jay’s Automotive United Late Model Series main event! Zeigler immediately jumped out to an early lead on lap one as Lake dropped to fourth behind Satterlee, and Ferree. By lap seven Zeigler already found himself at the tail end of the field putting the 10s of Dave Stamm and 11 of Troy Shields a lap down while the rest of the field maintanited their positions throughout. Noah Brunell drew the first caution of the evening for the series on lap eight, the 31 team running the bottom of the speedway was attempting to make his way to the infield off turn four as leaders Mason Ziegler and Gregg Satterlee quickly came upon him. Zeigler, quick to react, moved up a lane narrowly missing the 31. Satterlee directly behind him had no where to go and sustained severe cosmetic damage to the right rear of the race car ending his night. The tenth place running #40 of Michael Duritsky retired for the evening in attempt to save their engine after noticing the air filter had flew off his Tom Crow owned #40. Zeigler lead them back to green and a lap later disaster struck for the of Logan Zarin as he came to halt on the backstretch on lap nine. Engine issues would retire the United Late Model Series Elite Driver from the remainder of the event. With ten laps scored, Zeigler still lead meanwhile sixth starting Angelicchio found himself running second while the 10* of JMR - Jared Miley moved up five positions into third. Ferree dropped to fourth meanwhile tenth starting Eddie Carrier Jr rounded out the top five. Caution on lap fourteen for sixth place running Ryan Montgomery saw him leave on a hook after pushing up off the speedway with a flat tire. Coming back to green, Pinkerous would take fifth back from Carrier. A flat on the 11 of Troy Sheilds on lap nineteen reset the field once again. Zeigler lead the field to green once more, Pinkerous and Lake battled for the fifth position meanwhile on lap twenty-five Alex Ferree had a right rear flat and retired from the event. A single file restart saw Zeigler continue on to cross the line in first over Jared Miley, Dan Angelicchio, Eddie Carrier Jr, and Michael Lake to round out the top five!

The Jay’s Automotive United Late Model Series returns to Latrobe Speedway again on Saturday, July 19, 2025 for Chew On This - Jerky Night paying $7,500.00 to win and $600.00 to start. Check Engine Light
/ Mechanic Minute / By administrator
The check engine light on board diagnostics OBD II system is on 1996 and up (cars and light trucks.) The OBD II system monitors the sensors and actuators that run the engine. When one or more actuator or sensor goes out of spec the processor recognizes this and turns on the light. There are many sensors and actuators in these systems that may cause the light to come on. If the light flashes on and off continuously it indicates a serious problem and the vehicle should not be driven, because of the possibility of creating mechanical damage.

In New York State the vehicle will not pass the emmission part of the inspection if the check engine light is on. When the vehicle is inspected the check engine light needs to come on when the key is on and the engine is off, when the engine is then started the check engine light needs to be off.

When the light is on it needs to be diagnosed and have the problem repaired. This should be done by an ASE certified technician with an updated scanner. The problem can be anything from a missing gas cap to a bad sensor or actuator to replacing and reflashing trhe processor. After that is done it needs to be driven for a drive cycle so that the monitors can ready themselves. For a drive cycle to complete the vehicle needs to be driven about 30- 50 miles sometimes less sometimes more to ready enough monitors. For vehicles 1996-2000 you can have up to two monitors not ready when inspected. On vehicles 2001 and newer there can be only one monitor not ready. To have the monitors ready themselves, they need to go through certain conditions. One of these conditions to run some monitors is the ambient outside temperature needs to be above 40 degrees and in certain circumstances be left in a heated garage overnight and then do the drive cycle to make some of the monitors run. NewYork State has a universal drive cycle that seems to work well for most vehicles.

The universal drive cycle is:

1. The OBDII drive cyle begins with a cold start(coolant temperature below 122 degrees F and the coolant and air temperature sensors with in 11 degrees of each other.

2. The ignition key must not be left on prior to the cold start-otherwise the heated oxygen sensor diagnostic may not run.

* As soon as the engine starts, idle the engine in drive for two and one half m,inutes, with the air conditioning (A/C) and rear defrost turned on, if equipped…

*Turn the A/C and rear defrost off, and accelerate to 55mph under moderate, constant acceleration. Hold at a steady speed of 55mph for 3 minutes.

*Decelerate(coast down) to 20mph without braking (or depressing the clutch for manual transmissions.)

*Accelerate again back to 55 to 60mph.

*Hold at a steady speed of 55 to 60mph for five minutes.
Decelerate (coast down) to s stop with out braking.

The information above is general information and for diagnostics, repairs, and drive cycles specific to your vehicle you will need to see your repair facility.
