A Thoroughbred’s story can take him far beyond the racetrack. 🐎

Set Point last raced in March 2025 after earning $73,690 on the track. Now he’s won the Field Hunter division at the Retired Racehorse Project’s Thoroughbred Makeover, trained by Shelly Talk.

He also finished 9th in eventing among 55 horses. From the track to the field and eventing course, Set Point is showing how Thoroughbreds can thrive in new careers after racing.

He’s now in North Carolina alongside former runners Soviet Pimpernel and Recent Revelations. Congratulations to Set Point and his team, and thank you to Del Rio Chasers for supporting our horses as they move into their second and third careers.

Ever wonder why we’re called the Iroquois Steeplechase?

In 1881, Iroquois became the first American-bred horse to win England’s prestigious Epsom Derby — a major moment for American horse racing.

After his racing career, Iroquois came to Nashville and stood at Belle Meade, becoming part of Tennessee’s Thoroughbred history.

When Nashville’s steeplechase was created, early organizer John Sloan Sr. chose the name Iroquois in honor of the history-making horse. The cherry red and black racing colors of Iroquois’ owner, Pierre Lorillard, also became the colors of the Iroquois Steeplechase.

A Nashville racing tradition named for a horse who made history.

Mornings at the track. ☀️

Not many places come with a view like this.

The Iroquois Steeplechase course sits tucked inside Percy Warner Park, surrounded by some of Nashville’s best scenery. Built in the late 1930s with WPA funding and labor, the historic course is recognized by the National Park Service as the only racetrack ever built by the federal government.
