Spooky sound: A loud squeal when you first start the car, or when you turn on the A/C or heat.

That noise usually comes from the serpentine belt, the long rubber belt that drives the alternator, the A/C compressor and often the water pump. When the belt is worn, glazed or loose, it slips and squeals, especially in cool, damp weather.

Driving in for the festival this weekend, or heading out of town while everybody else is heading in?

Swing by before 5 today and we will look the car over. Tires, brakes, fluids, lights. It takes a few minutes and it is a lot cheaper than finding out about a problem on the side of the road.

We are closed Saturday and Sunday, so today is the day.

New on the blog. Fall in Middle Tennessee is easier on a car than summer was, but the swing between a 45 degree morning and a 78 degree afternoon works on tires, batteries and wiper blades in ways most people never think about.

Heads up if you live or work near downtown. Pilgrimage is at Harlinsdale this weekend and Franklin is about to get busy.

Expect Main Street and the roads around the park to back up from Friday afternoon through Sunday evening. If you can run your errands before Friday, do. If you are going, have a great time and give yourself extra minutes getting anywhere.

A car came in last week that had been to two other places already and still had the same problem.

Thomas spent the better part of a morning on it before he found it. That happens more than you would guess, and it is the reason we would rather take the time up front than hand you a bill for parts that did not fix anything.

If you have ever hung up from a repair shop more confused than when you called, you will appreciate Mike. Ask him anything. He would rather explain it twice than have you agree to something you do not understand.
