Well that's a wrap for the 2026 Karting Nelson Club Champs and Final Round of Club Points which was held over the weekend on Sunday.

Big thank you to all the officials and volunteers for making the day run smoothly and giving up their weekend for two epic days of racing. But more importantly thank you to the competitors, who travelled from out of town and adding to our local drivers especially in the Cadet Rok class with 14 keen racers.

We have a bit to celebrate today, another new lap record in that Briggs Heavy class as well as drivers of the day.

Congratulations to George Maw for receiving our "Rookie Driver of the Day" award, you are driving well and are making some great gains.
Congratulations to Max Bird as our Driver of the Day. Max made some mistakes but owned them and learnt fast which made for some epic battles. Well done mate!

As we mentioned that Briggs Heavy lap record has officially been lowered again but this time by another driver Ian McLeod with a blistering 36.278 in the first heat on Sunday.

A massive shout out to our sponsors and supporters! Prize giving for the Club Champs and Club Points Championships will be held at out club rooms on the 12th December.

Also we were luckily enough to have Andrew pop out and take some photos over the weekend which we will have up on our website, you can check them out here https://www.kartsportnelson.co.nz/gallery

Our next event is the Motueka TOP 10 Holiday Park Jason Richards GP on the 31st October and remember to keep those entries rolling in for the Amber Court Motel South Island Sprint Champs which will be held on the 14th November.

Congratulations to our members that attended the 2026 Garden City at Karting Canterbury over the weekend.

A strong team from Nelson travelled south to Christchurch for the final rounds(s) of the Mainland Series and was met with a mixed weather day for practice but a sunny race day on the Saturday which was raced in normal direction. Day two was far from sunny though, with wet and near freezing conditions. After just one qualifying session and one heat the day was called off so the overall results just went back to Saturdays results. The team had some awesome results with a couple and wins and podium.

Cadet Rok
1st - Bentley Hart
6th - Ollie Hendry

Vortex Mini Rok
3rd - Jett Randall

Rotax Light
12th - Laylah Nicholson

Briggs Heavy
1st - Kevin Barker and 1st Masters
8th Ian McLeod

Rotax Heavy
3rd - Kevin Barker
5th - Derryn French

Mega job by all drivers and crew that made the effort to travel and support the Garden City event, you all should be proud of your efforts.

Good luck to the Karting Nelson team that's heading down south to the 2026 Garden City Champs at Karting Canterbury this weekend for round 5 and 6 of the Mainland Series.

Go and have fun, and bring home some silverware 🏁

A special mention goes out to Theo Toynbee who was entered in this event in VMR but due to an injury has had to pull out so get better soon bud.

We also forgot to mention last weekend that Bentley Hart in Cadet Rok travelled up to Karting Hamilton for Round 4 of the Karting New Zealand Kartstar Series and what a performance this young man did too. Bentley had never driven on that track before and after only one day of practice he qualified 3rd and unfortunately his final didn't go that well but still come home 6th. We think that's a great effort bud so well done to you and the team.
