Winter potholes don't always announce themselves straight away.

Hitting a pothole hard enough can knock a wheel out of alignment without any immediate sign, and the effects - uneven tyre wear, a car pulling slightly to one side - build up gradually from there.

Spring in Canterbury means pollen, and a lot of it ends up pulled straight into the car through the cabin air filter.

What's not normal is a heater that's still only lukewarm ten or fifteen minutes into the drive. That can point to low coolant, a faulty thermostat, or a heater core that isn't flowing properly, and it's worth having checked rather than just turning the fan up.

Steam from the exhaust on a cold morning is usually completely normal. Warm exhaust gas meeting freezing air condenses into visible vapour, the same way breath fogs on a frosty morning, and it typically clears within a minute or two of driving.

It's worth a closer look if the steam is thick, persistent well after the engine's warmed up, has a strong smell, or comes with a drop in coolant level. Those can point to a coolant leak rather than ordinary condensation.
