Here's what we look at during every WOF inspection at Fil Motors:

✅ Tyres — tread depth, condition, pressure

We go further than the invoice. ❤️

Zeno came in to get timing kit work done on his 1990 Civic. We got into it, and noticed his windshield wipers were past their best.

So we replaced them. No charge. Didn't even make a big deal of it.

Quick quiz: Do you actually know what this light means? 🔦

A lot of drivers see a warning light come on and think: "It'll probably go away."

Sometimes it does. But sometimes it means your engine is running hot, your oil pressure is low, or something more serious is building up underneath the bonnet.

Here's a quick guide to the most common ones Christchurch drivers ask us about:

🔴 Red lights — Don't ignore these. Pull over safely if possible.
🟠 Amber lights — Your car is telling you to get it checked soon.
🔵 Blue lights — Usually just informational (like high beams on).

The engine warning light (that little orange engine icon) can mean anything from a loose fuel cap to a serious emission fault. The only way to know is a proper diagnostic scan.

Would you drive on these brakes? 🛑

The one on the left? That came off a car we inspected this week.

The owner hadn't noticed any serious problems — just a slight squeal occasionally.

That thin sliver of brake pad material was all that was standing between them and metal-on-metal contact.

The new pads on the right? Fitted and out the door in under an hour.

Brake pads are one of the most important safety components on your car, and one of the most affordable things to replace when caught at the right time.

🔋 Battery — cold weather is the main cause of battery failure. Has yours been starting smoothly?
🛞 Tyres — tread depth and pressure after months of wet roads
🛑 Brakes — wet weather makes brake wear less obvious
💧 Fluids — coolant, brake fluid, oil — all worth checking
