This 2021 Peugeot 2008 1.2 PureTech was in with us for a wetbelt and water pump replacement after covering just 60,000 miles 🔧

You can already see the belt beginning to crack, which is one of the first signs it’s starting to deteriorate.

The 1.2 PureTech engine is fitted to a wide range of Peugeot, Citroën, Vauxhall, DS and even some Toyota models. As the belt runs in the engine oil, it can break down over time, contaminating the oil with rubber debris. This can block the oil pickup, reduce oil pressure and, if left too long, lead to serious engine damage.

Although official intervals have varied over the years, from our experience we recommend replacing these wetbelts at around 4–5 years or 40,000–50,000 miles, whichever comes first. It’s far cheaper to replace the belt as preventative maintenance than it is to replace an engine.

On this vehicle we carried out:
• New wetbelt
• New water pump
• Full clean of the sump and oil pickup
• New seals and one-time-use fixings where required

This Volkswagen Polo arrived with us after breaking down and losing all drive. The RAC recovered it to us from just down the road, ready for diagnosis 🔧

Our initial suspicion was either a failed clutch plate or release bearing. Once the gearbox was removed, the fault was immediately obvious.

One side of the clutch plate had completely worn away, with all of the friction material gone. Without that material, the clutch could no longer transfer power from the engine to the gearbox, leaving the car with no gears.

To get the Polo back on the road we fitted:
• New 3-piece clutch kit
• Reassembled and tested everything thoroughly

Another fault diagnosed, repaired properly and one very happy customer back on the road 💪

This 2018 Ford Focus 1.0 Ecoboost was in with us for a wetbelt replacement 🔧

The photo says it all 👀

Over time, these belts can start to break down inside the engine oil, shedding rubber particles that collect in the sump and block the oil pickup. Once oil flow is restricted, it can lead to low oil pressure, major engine damage and in some cases complete engine failure.

As part of this job we carried out:
• Wetbelt replacement
• Oil pump belt replacement
• New water pump
• New rocker cover gasket
• Sump removed and thoroughly cleaned
• All new bolts and seals fitted

This Vauxhall Insignia came in with an unusual complaint — a squeaking noise whenever the vehicle was accelerated 🔧

After carrying out some diagnosis, we traced the noise to a faulty PCV valve located within the cam cover.

The PCV system is designed to regulate pressure inside the engine. When the valve fails, it can allow excessive vacuum to build up inside the crankcase. This often causes air to be drawn through the failed diaphragm, creating a high-pitched squeaking or whistling noise that can easily be mistaken for a belt or pulley issue.

As the PCV valve is integrated into the cam cover on these engines, the complete cam cover assembly was replaced.

Once fitted, the unwanted noise had completely disappeared and the engine was running exactly as it should again ✅

Another fault diagnosed, repaired and back on the road fault-free 💪

This 2016 Vauxhall Vivaro came in for its MOT and unfortunately failed on rear service brake efficiency 🔧

From the outside, there was only slight corrosion visible on the rear brake discs. However, once stripped down it became clear why the vehicle had failed.

The rear face of the brake disc was heavily corroded, with around 70% of the braking surface affected. The brake pads were only making contact with a small section of the disc, significantly reducing braking performance and efficiency.

To rectify the issue we fitted:
• New rear brake discs
• New rear brake pads

A good example of why it’s important to inspect both sides of a brake disc, as the outer face doesn’t always tell the full story 👀

With the new brakes fitted, the Vivaro passed its MOT and is now back on the road braking safely as it should 💪
