The phone's been a bit quiet recently, but the latest new Ian Broad Motoring pupil to hit the road is GABRIEL MARTIN PAPILLON, who has successfully completed his first lesson.

From 31 March 2026 it will only be possible to change a car driving test up to twice (reduced from six times). This applies to all car driving tests booked by the instructor or the pupil.

When this rule comes in, everyone with a booked test will have two changes available, regardless of how many changes they’ve made before.

A change includes:-
1) changing the date or time;
2) changing the test centre;
3) swapping a test between two pupils.

If more than one thing is changed at the same time (for example, the date and test centre together), this still counts as one change.

We'll have to wait and see whether this has effect on the lengthy waiting list.

OLIVIA SIMPSON passed her driving test a few years ago, but, having rarely driven, she's looking to brush up her skills.

It's been a tough year for everyone involved in the driving tuition industry, not the least the pupils, but I've tried my best to continue doing what I do best, putting safe, confident drivers on the road.

The DVSA are making some subtle changes to the practical driving test.
You may have seen that the DVSA have been trialling changes to the driving test at 20 driving test centres.
As part of the trial, learners drove on routes containing more high speed, rural roads during their driving test (where location allowed.).
Now, they are rolling out the changes to all driving test centres in Great Britain from 24 November 2025.

As well as increasing the amount of time spent on higher speed roads, they are: -
✅ reducing the number of stops during the test from 4 to 3;
✅ lowering the frequency of emergency stop exercises from 1 in 3 tests to 1 in 7;
✅ adding flexibility to the independent driving segment, allowing it to run for the full duration of the test.

These changes are designed to help improve road safety by better replicating the conditions motorists face in the real world.
They won’t affect the skills needed to take a driving test.

Following a successful 5-month trial, DVSA is rolling out some subtle changes to the practical driving test.

20 years ago to the day I walked into my then employer's office to iron out a few issues and walked out self-employed.
And that's how Ian Broad Motoring came into existence.
Two decades of "adventures" later it's still going strong so I must have done something right.
I think I deserve a celebratory beer.
