☀️ LOW SUN & SPRING DRIVING ADVICE ☀️

With the brighter mornings and longer evenings returning, we’re seeing more cases of low sun glare affecting visibility on the roads — especially during commuting and school run hours.

Even experienced drivers can struggle when the sun is low in the sky, so it’s important to adjust your driving early and stay prepared.
A few simple habits can make a huge difference:

🧽 Keep your windscreen clean
A dirty windscreen scatters sunlight and makes glare much worse. Clean both the inside and outside regularly, especially if you’ve noticed smearing when driving towards the sun.

🕶️ Use sunglasses wisely
Polarised sunglasses can help reduce glare and improve contrast, making it easier to spot hazards, pedestrians and road markings earlier. Keep a pair in the car if you drive regularly in the mornings or evenings.

🚗 Increase your following distance
When visibility is reduced, you need more time to react. Increase the normal following distance further if you are glared by the sun.

⚠️ Slow down sooner than usual
If you can’t see clearly ahead, reduce your speed smoothly and early. Many drivers continue at normal speed even when visibility is poor, which leaves very little time to react to sudden hazards.

🚦 Take extra care at junctions and traffic lights
Low sun can completely hide traffic lights, brake lights and Give Way signs. Approach junctions with extra caution and never assume other drivers can see you properly either.

💡 Use dipped headlights if needed
Even during daylight, headlights can help other road users see your vehicle more clearly when the sun is causing glare.

If the sun becomes too blinding to continue safely, the best option is sometimes to pull over somewhere safe for a few minutes until conditions improve.

Stay safe everyone and take care on the roads 🚗

🚗😰 Driving Test Nerves? Stay Calm & Pass Your Test! ✅

Feeling nervous before your driving test is completely normal — it’s your body’s natural “fight or flight” response 🧠
This can cause:
⚡ Faster heart rate
🌬️ Shallow breathing
🤯 Overthinking
🚫 Hesitation

Here’s how to stay in control 👇

🍌 Eat a banana
Contains magnesium & vitamin B6 which help support brain function and steady energy levels. It’s not a miracle cure, but it can help stabilize mood and focus, especially combined with other strategies.

🚗 Do mock tests (this is the BIG one!)
The more familiar it feels, the less scary it becomes.
➡️ Your brain treats it as something it already knows.

🧘‍♀️ Control your breathing
Try this: inhale 4 sec, hold 4, exhale 6
➡️ Calms your nervous system and lowers heart rate.

💬 Positive self-talk
Replace: “I might fail”
With: “I’ve driven safely many times” or “I just need to drive like I do in lessons”
➡️ Builds confidence and reduces panic.

💤 Get a good night’s sleep
Lack of sleep = slower reactions + more anxiety. Early night before test and
no screens late at night really helps a lot.

☕ Avoid too much caffeine
Can increase shaking, anxiety & racing thoughts.

🕒 Arrive early & settle in
Rushing increases stress — give yourself time to relax.

🎯 Focus on SAFE driving, not passing
Thinking “I must pass” adds pressure
➡️ Thinking “I’ll drive safely” improves performance.

🎧 Listen to calming music before your test
Helps regulate mood and reduce anxiety.

🙊 Don’t tell everyone about your test
Telling lots of people can increase pressure (“What if I fail?”)
➡️ Keeping it private reduces expectations and helps you stay calm.

✔️ Accept mistakes can happen
You can make up to 15 minor faults and still pass!

💡 MOST IMPORTANT:
The examiner is NOT looking for perfection…
They are looking for a SAFE DRIVER 🚘

You’ve got this 💪✨
Stay calm, trust your training and drive your best!

🚗 BIG CHANGES COMING TO UK DRIVING TESTS IN 2026 - STARTING FROM 31ST MARCH! 🚗

If you're learning to drive (or planning to start), this is something you need to know 👇

New rules are being introduced that will affect how you book, change, and manage your driving test — and they could make a big difference to your journey to passing!

📅 Key updates include:
✔️ Fewer changes allowed to your test
✔️ Only YOU can book and manage your test (not your instructor)
✔️ Restrictions on where you can move your test

⚠️ These changes start from 31 March 2026, with more updates in May and June — so it’s important to be prepared early.

💡 Already got a test booked? Don’t worry — your booking is still valid! Just make sure you have your reference number so you can manage it yourself.

💡🚗 Save Money on Fuel & Car Costs – Smart Driving Tips from Your Local Instructors! 🚗💡

⛽ With fuel prices rising almost daily due to the ongoing situation in the Middle East, we know how important it is to make every penny count. That’s why we’re sharing some simple but powerful tips to help you save fuel and cut car expenses 👇

🚦 Drive Smoothly
Avoid harsh acceleration and sudden braking – smoother driving = less fuel used + less wear on your car.

🛣️ Keep a Steady Speed
Consistent speed improves fuel efficiency. Cruise control can help on longer journeys!

🔧 Check Tyre Pressure
Under-inflated tyres = more fuel used + faster wear. Keep them at the right pressure ✔️

🧳 Lighten Your Car
Extra weight makes your engine work harder. Clear out what you don’t need!

⛔ Switch Off When Waiting
Idling wastes fuel – turn off your engine if you’re stopped for more than a minute.

⚙️ Use the Right Gear
Manual vehicle: Driving in the correct gear keeps your engine efficient and saves fuel.
Automatic: avoid heavy acceleration and let the car do the work.
Both = better fuel economy! 🚗💸

🛢️ Check Oil Before Long Trips
A quick oil check can prevent costly engine damage and keep your car running smoothly.

🔍 Regular Servicing = Savings
A well-maintained car is more efficient and avoids expensive repairs later.

🗺️ Plan Your Journeys
Combine trips & avoid heavy traffic to cut down fuel usage.

🚶‍♂️🚌 Walk, Cycle or Use Public Transport
Short trips don’t always need the car – save fuel, reduce wear & stay active!

🚗💥 It only takes one pothole…

You’re driving along.
It’s raining.
There’s water sitting on the road ahead.
It looks harmless.
Then — bang.

A loud thud. The steering wheel jolts.
And later… a damaged tyre. Bent alloy. Tracking out. Unexpected repair bill.

Whilst we're waiting for them to be repaired we’re seeing this more and more around Rugby.

The truth is, potholes aren’t just “bad roads” — they’re hidden hazards. And when they’re filled with rainwater, even experienced drivers can’t judge how deep they are.

But here’s the part many drivers aren’t taught…

Avoiding pothole damage isn’t about luck.
It’s about:
✔ Reading the road surface early
✔ Anticipating where damage is likely to be
✔ Managing speed before the hazard
✔ Keeping safe positioning without swerving dangerously
✔ Knowing what to do if you can’t avoid impact

At Driving School Rugby, we don’t just teach people how to pass a test.

We teach real-world driving.

Because once you’ve passed, you’re on your own. And the road doesn’t get easier.

Take a look at our guide and share it with someone who drives locally. It might save them a tyre… or more importantly, keep them safe.
Have potholes caught you out recently?👇

Let’s raise awareness together 🚘
