Meet the Technician: Ashley Ross

For Ashley, no two days are the same, and that is exactly what he enjoys most about the job. He loves the freedom of managing his own business, working outdoors, and building something for himself.

What do you enjoy most about your job? It’s different every day, I have the freedom to manage my own business, and I love to be working outside.
What’s one skill that really helps you succeed in your role? Having perseverance.
What’s the biggest challenge in your job? The weather, especially the rain, it makes repairing the glass much more difficult. I don’t mind the cold so much and heated gloves are a lifesaver.
What’s one thing customers might not realise about your job? How much actually goes into the job, like all the tools and the preparation.

Quick fire with Ashley
Tea or coffee? Coffee
Early bird or night owl? If I had to pick one, then night owl.
Favourite holiday destination? The Maldives are amazing, but anywhere on the Southeast coast of Spain is beautiful.
Favourite food? Pizza
If you weren’t doing this job, what would you be doing? Probably what I was doing before, so an apprentice mechanic mainly because I love cars so much.
What advice would you give to someone starting in your role? Put the legwork in early and get out there, set yourself up online to get yourself known. But also, make sure not to overstretch yourself by trying to deal with everyone at one because it’s not possible and you’ll be too tired from driving, say 200 miles a day.

We have two new technicians training with us this week. Stuart who will be covering Cheshire and Malcolm who will be covering Edinburgh. They are being trained by Des our Medway technician, who is one of our longest serving technicians (he previously worked for our sister company Chicago Glass). They have already mastered the art of chip repair and today they are scratch polish training with headlight restoration tomorrow.

We are delighted to welcome both of them to GlasWeld.

Meet the Tech – James Nissan

James is our technician covering the Middlesex area. It is a family affair for James as his uncle used to cover the area previously.

What do you enjoy most about your job? The interaction with people and the freedom of not being restricted to working in just one area. Every day is different, which keeps the job interesting.

What’s one skill that really helps you succeed in your role? Being genuine, friendly and helpful with customers. Building trust and providing great service makes all the difference.

What’s the biggest challenge in your job? The weather is always a challenge, but so is encouraging customers to think about the environmental benefits of repairing rather than replacing a windscreen.

What’s one thing customers might not realise about your job? Many people don't realise just how professional our work is and the quality of results we achieve through specialist windscreen repairs.

Quick Fire with James
Tea or coffee? A bit of both, although recently I've been leaning more towards tea.
Early bird or night owl? Night owl.
Favourite holiday destination? Tuscany.
Favourite food? Tapas.
If you weren't doing this job, what would you be doing? I've done a bit of everything over the years, so it's hard to say exactly, but one thing is certain – I'd still be self-employed.

What advice would you give someone starting in your role? Keep going, even when things don't go your way. Not every day will be a success, but if you believe in yourself and stay determined, you'll get there.

Meet the Tech: Shawn Hill

Shawn is our technician for Worcester since 2010. Friendly and easy to get along with, he is very much a favourite of everyone he meets. Plus, he sends chocolate to the office regularly. Always a winner!

What do you enjoy most about your job? The freedom of being self-employed.

What’s one skill that really helps you succeed in your role? Being a people person and having good communication skills.

What’s the biggest challenge in your job? The weather. Cold mornings and rain can make the job harder, although Shawn admits it’s a much nicer office when the sun comes out.

What’s one thing customers might not realise about your job? A repaired windscreen won’t disappear completely. While repairs dramatically improve the damage and stop it spreading, there will usually still be a slight visible mark where the repair has been carried out.

Quick Fire with Shawn

Tea or coffee? Tea
Early bird or night owl? Early bird
Favourite holiday destination? Spain or anywhere as long as it’s warm
Favourite food? Indian
If you weren’t doing this job, what would you be doing? I think I would be in the postal service, mainly because I like to get outside.

Advice to someone starting in your role? Be driven, don’t be downhearted if the working week doesn’t go as well as you’d like and always keep going.

Meet the Tech: Alex Franckeiss-Paul

Alex is GlasWeld’s youngest technician and, despite being one of the latest to join the team, he’s already become a huge part of it. Covering Crawley and parts of Sussex, Alex brings plenty of energy, confidence, and enthusiasm to the role.

What do you enjoy most about your job? Every day is different, and I like saving customers money by repairing instead of replacing glass.
What’s one skill that really helps you succeed in your role? I like to face a challenge, and I also think I’m quite confident.
What’s the biggest challenge in your job? Getting customers onboard with our service and educating them on what we do.
What’s one thing customers might not realise about your job? Glass can be repaired instead of completely replaced.

Quick fire with Alex
Tea or coffee? Coffee
Early bird or night owl? Early bird
Favourite holiday destination? Orlando Florida
Favourite food? Indian
If you weren’t doing this job, what would you be doing? I’ve not been in this job for too long, so I reckon I’d be working in insurance like I was before.
Advice to newbies: 100% take the role, it’s not easy-going but it’s very rewarding and has changed my life in the time I’ve been doing the job.

🌍 This Earth Day, Small Repairs Make a Big Difference

Today marks Earth Day — a reminder that the choices we make every day have a lasting impact on our planet.

At GlasWeld Systems UK, sustainability isn’t just a talking point—it’s built into what we do.

Every windscreen we repair instead of replace is one less piece of glass sent to landfill. It’s a simple shift, but across fleets and thousands of vehicles, the environmental impact adds up quickly.

✔️ Less waste
✔️ Reduced energy consumption
✔️ Lower carbon footprint

Repairing isn’t just cost-effective—it’s the more responsible choice.

This Earth Day, we’re proud to play our part in keeping glass out of landfill and helping our customers do the same.

If your fleet has chipped or damaged glass, act early—because most damage can be repaired before it becomes a replacement.

🌱 Repair. Don’t replace. Protect what matters.
