Great to see Stanswood Beach Rescue's Arancia rescue craft on its bespoke trailer (our 'Rescue Boats Europe' brand proudly supplied) ready to launch yesterday on the beach when delivering a fuel tank - fantastic work by their volunteer lifeguards and supporters to be there on an October Saturday! Further thoughts on the BBC News report, with the El Niño weather events approaching, under Minister Emma Hardy the "UK launches flood taskforce to prepare for extreme winter weather": It's nearly a decade and half since the Flood Rescue National Enhancement Project a Defra funded national capability uplift created after the severe UK floods of 2007. Its purpose was to build a coherent, interoperable national flood rescue capability across Fire and Rescue Services and voluntary SAR organisations. Given calculations said we needed hundreds of rescue boats in the absolute worst storm, how many are there for England and Wales now? Is the current few dozen enough?

Scientists say the growing El Niño weather pattern is an "unprecedented event" and means 2027 is likely to be the world's hottest year on record.

One wonders whether this initiative will include rescue services and rescue assets (rescue boats) providers?

The Environment Agency has warned approximately 6.3 million homes and businesses in England remain at risk of flooding.

Although an EU report it makes for salutory reading because many of the conclusions are widely applicable.

This report presents an analysis of current and emerging risks in Europe, highlighting the need for a proactive and coordinated approach to risk anticipation, risk assessment and risk governance.

Last week at Seawork 2026 what with the 'Floodfighters Conference' and Workshops never a dull moment - lots of things going on with loads of visitors to say hello! With my volunteer colleague Rescue Technicians from Wessex Rescue, giving outstanding help with their demonstrations and stand staffing, answering lots of questions about what they do when they rescue people from water and floods! The industry professionals at the Floodfighters Conference - Roy Harold (who "MC'd"), Mark Pullinger (1st pitcure), Peter Brown, Matthew Saffin (who showed off his new marine/Helo "Evac" casualty evacuation device - Roy is demonstrating how stable it is in the 2nd picture!), Chris B**r and Adrian Smart (acting for Richard Butler DEFRA NR lead) all gave fantastic presentations on how to improve "Floodfighting and Water Rescue". Thank you to Michal Berdek from SIBEZA Sp. z o.o. and Krisztian Vereb (and colleagues) from BH Fabrications for sharing my Professional Rescue stand. Many thanks to the SeaWork team and Fay Reeve for making it all happen. Likewise I'm looking to the future to see how we can develop the Flood and Water Rescue sector at SeaWork in 2027! Great work everyone involved and a huge big thank you!

Seeing ice on the Poole Park boating lake reminded us that when people fall through, fast effective ice and water rescue would be a life saver. We are the Distributors for the Mayday Hansa Rescue Board as used by the Scandinavian Fire and Rescue Services. So here's a short video of what it can accomplish.
