New operators have been announced for 30 former NCP car parks.

Lysara has agreed long-term leases with Q-Park across 20 sites, while Apex Parking will manage a further 10.

The company says the new arrangements are designed to improve customer experience and keep open the option of adding high-speed EV charging in future.

For fleet drivers, city centre parking needs to be simple, available and increasingly charging-ready.

Tesla Semi is heading for Europe.

Tesla will reveal the European-market specification and launch details at IAA Hannover in September.

Its UK site lists a 340-mile range, 800kW charging and 1.0kWh/km efficiency for the 40-tonne electric truck.

Fleet operators will be watching closely to see how it compares with electric HGVs from Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, MAN and Scania.

Would Tesla Semi make sense for UK fleets?

Lepas has appointed Tim Whitworth as national leasing manager as it prepares to build a dedicated UK fleet operation.

The new Chery Group brand sits alongside Omoda, Jaecoo and Chery.

Whitworth previously helped establish Omoda and Jaecoo in the UK fleet and leasing sectors.

The first Lepas model, the L8, is a plug-in hybrid SUV with a claimed 56-mile electric range and prices from £34,900.

For fleets, would dealer coverage, price or aftersales support matter most when considering a new brand?

The Government is consulting on changes to GB vehicle type approval rules.

The proposals would bring GB rules closer to EU and UN standards across areas such as wipers, spray suppression, aerodynamic devices, hydrogen fuel systems, lighting, tyre pressure monitoring and lane keeping.

There are also proposed updates around permitted maximum mass when towing.

The aim is to reduce duplicate approval processes and make rules simpler for manufacturers.

New Arval research shows light LCV operators expect 16% of their fleets to be electric within three years.

That compares with the ZEV mandate target for new electric van sales of 58% in 2029.

For operators, the main barriers remain range, payload, charging, cost and keeping vans on the road.

What is the biggest challenge for electric vans?

UK inflation rose to 2.9% in the 12 months to July, up from 2.6% the previous month, according to the ONS.

Pump price rises slowed to 15.5%, compared with 21.3% in the 12 months to June.

Diesel averaged 167.6ppl in July, while petrol averaged 152.2ppl.

For fleets, fuel prices remain a key pressure on operating costs, even as the pace of increases begins to slow.

The maximum MOT fee for cars and small vans has not changed since 2010.

Garages now want that reviewed.

The Independent Garage Association is calling for the Class 4 MOT fee to rise from £54.85 to £95, citing higher labour, rent, equipment, fuel, energy, compliance and admin costs.

For fleets, this is a cost story, but also a capacity story.

If MOT testing becomes less sustainable for garages, operators could face reduced availability, fewer testing appointments and more pressure around keeping vehicles compliant.

The IMI is also working with the DVSA on an industry roundtable to discuss the economic challenges facing MOT garages, including future investment in equipment and skills.

Would fleets rather absorb a higher MOT fee, or risk reduced testing capacity and less appointment availability?

The fleet sector wants the ZEV mandate review to reflect the real-world challenges of EV adoption.

The Government is reviewing annual electric car and van sales targets, although the 2030 and 2035 end goals remain unchanged.

For vans, the barriers are still significant: payload, range, charging access, cost, grid connections and keeping vehicles operational.

Would more flexible targets help fleets, or create more uncertainty?
