You’ve probably heard that the rules for booking a test have changed - but do you know that even using an app to search and find dates for you, breaches the new booking Terms and Conditions?

Imagine if this was how your driving examiner got you to do the emergency stop 🤣

Huge congratulations to Christian Moloney who easily passed today and at the first attempt. Having had to wait an extra 20 minutes for the examiner to make it back from the one before his, he kept his nerve and smashed it. Well done Christian, it’s been a pleasure!

When I first started teaching in 1990 incidents like this one were extremely rare. Maybe once a month or so I would see someone driving without any care for the law. Now, it’s virtually every hour of every day. It’s gotten to the point where it’s no longer shocking - it’s becoming so normal

How did we get to this point?

The video shows a car bypassing the mini roundabout on the wrong side of the road.

📢 Driving Test Changes – What You NEED to Know (2026 Timeline)

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency is introducing phased changes to tackle the backlog and clamp down on unfair booking practices.

Here’s what’s coming — and what it actually means for you 👇

🗓 31 March 2026
You’ll be limited to just TWO changes or swaps per test booking.

👉 This is a big shift.
Until now, people have been moving tests multiple times to chase earlier dates.

What this means:
• You’ll need to be more certain you’re ready before booking
• No more endless “test hunting”
• Late decision-making becomes risky

🗓 12 May 2026
Only the learner driver can book or change a test.

👉 This is aimed directly at:
• Third-party apps
• Bulk bookings
• Instructor-controlled booking systems

What this means:
• The booking system becomes more “personal”
• Reduces large-scale manipulation
• BUT… it doesn’t completely stop workarounds

🗓 9 June 2026
Location restrictions come in when changing your test.

👉 You’ll only be able to move your test:
• To the same test centre
• Or nearby locations (not nationwide swaps)

What this means:
• No more booking “anywhere in the UK” just to get a slot
• Less long-distance test flipping
• More pressure on local availability

⚖️ The Reality (No sugar coating)

These changes will:
✔ Reduce some abuse of the system
✔ Make availability more stable over time

But they will also:
❗ Make test slots more valuable
❗ Encourage people to hold onto bookings longer
❗ Potentially increase demand for cancellation-finding services

And yes…
Bots and systems don’t disappear overnight — they adapt.

🎯 The BIG takeaway for learners

This shifts responsibility back onto YOU.

✔ Be properly prepared before booking
✔ Don’t rush to secure “any” test
✔ Focus on being test-ready — not just test-booked

Because now…
A test isn’t something you can keep moving around.

💬 If you’re learning right now, how do you feel about these changes?
Are they fair… or just shifting the problem?

Now here’s a result. Sophie has worked so hard to pass her driving test - almost as hard as my clutch and gearbox 🫢.

But, she made it through with perseverance and determination and I couldn’t be more pleased for her. Well done Sophie you deserve huge congratulations 🥳
