A typical wet January day but all smiles for Milly, passing her driving test for the first time with just three minor driving faults🥳 (and one of those was for adjusting the car on the manoeuvre 😁). She had a good chat with the examiner during the drive so it helped keep things nice and relaxed😊. So well deserved, well done Milly 🚗😊.

All smiles for Annie this morning. She made a brilliant job of her test, passing first time with only two minor driving faults 🥳🚗 (something to do with a bus lane and stopping on or near a bus stop 😱). Other than that it must have been good as the examiner commented on the drive 😊. Well done Annie, very well deserved 👍😊

What a day for Anu, some atrocious weather but she still managed to pass her driving test first time with just two minor driving faults 🥳🚗. It's taken a wee while (not helped by the wait for a test date), but it's all worth it, as that experience paid off today and will stand her in good stead when driving on her own. Well done Anu, greatly deserved.

A great way to start the new year for Katherine, passing her driving test first time with just 4 minor driving faults 🚗🎉. Being able to drive is important for Katherine as she has a rather young baby (born a month ago!) so she is now able to travel independently. Well done Katherine 😁

What a great day for Fowzia, passing his driving test with just 3 minor driving faults 🥳🚗. He deserves credit for all the hard work he's put in. Now all he's got to do is try and prise the car away from his wife 🤣

To add to this lovely sunny day, Alanna passed her driving test first time with only one minor driving fault 🥳🚘😊. A determination matched by her resilience has seen her progress quite quickly to a very high standard which was also received a favourable comment from the examiner. Well done Alanna 😊

What a great day for Isobel, passing her driving test first time with only two measly driving faults 🥳🚗. From start to finish she has been the model pupil, always willing to work hard and has bags of patience (including having the long wait for her test!). All worth it in the end though and now it’s time to enjoy driving that car you have, on your own 🚗😄. Well done Isobel, very well deserved.

What a fantastic result for Scott today, a first time pass with only one minor driving fault 🥳🚗. Scott has been brilliant from day one and could have taken his test earlier if it weren’t for the pesky waiting time to get a test date 🤔. All worth it in the end though and that extra experience makes a tremendous difference. Well done Scott 🚘 and all the best for the future.

🚦 20 Means 20

One of the most frustrating things I see (and hear from learners and new drivers) is this:

You’re driving exactly at the speed limit in a 20mph zone…

Someone behind is practically trying to climb into your boot, desperate to push you along or overtake.

Let’s face it: If you’re doing 20 in a 20, you are NOT the problem.

That driver behind you? They’re showing zero respect for the rules, for safety, and for the very real reasons these zones exist.

20mph isn’t just a number on a sign.
It’s there because children play nearby.
Because schools are on that road.
Because narrow streets and blind corners leave no room for error.

At 20mph, you have a far better chance of stopping in time. At 30mph, the chance of serious injury or worse skyrockets.

So no, you’re not a fool for complying with the rules.

You’re the one protecting lives.

And if someone wants to break the law behind you? That’s their choice, not yours.

Stay calm.
Hold your ground.
Drive safe.
20 means plenty 😊

COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT THE DRIVING TEST

🚫 Myth 1: Examiners Have a Pass Quota
✅ Fact: There is no pass or fail quota. Examiners assess each candidate based on their performance during the test. If you meet the required standard, you pass simple as that.

🚫 Myth 2: Stalling Means Automatic Failure
✅ Fact: Stalling isn’t an automatic fail. It’s how you handle the situation that matters. If you stall but recover quickly and safely, it’s typically marked as a driver fault.

🚫 Myth 3: Crossing Hands on the Steering Wheel Leads to Failure
✅ Fact: Crossing your hands while steering isn’t a fault in itself. Examiners look for safe and controlled steering, regardless of hand position.

🚫 Myth 4: You Must Drive at the Speed Limit at All Times
✅ Fact: Speed limits are maximums, not targets. Driving at a speed appropriate for the road and conditions is key.
Driving too fast or too slow can both be faults.

🚫 Myth 5: Exaggerated Head Movements Show You’re Checking Mirrors
✅ Fact: Examiners are trained to notice subtle mirror checks. Over-exaggerating head movements isn’t necessary and can be distracting.

🚫 Myth 6: Taking the Test at Certain Times Increases Chances of Passing
✅ Fact: There’s no evidence that test timing affects outcomes. Being well-prepared and confident is the best strategy, regardless of the time of day.

🚫 Myth 7: Examiners Want You to Take a Specific Route
✅ Fact: While certain routes are commonly used, examiners can vary the test route. Familiarity with various road types and conditions is more beneficial than memorizing a specific path.

🚫 Myth 8: Driving Slowly Shows You’re a Careful Driver
✅ Fact: Driving significantly below the speed limit without reason can be seen as a lack of confidence and may disrupt traffic flow.

🚫 Myth 9: You Automatically Fail If You Take a Wrong Turn
✅ Fact: Taking a wrong turn isn’t an automatic fail. Examiners assess your ability to drive safely, not your navigation skills.

🚫 Myth 10: Male Learners Pass More Easily Than Female Learners
✅ Fact: Pass rates can vary, but success depends on individual preparation and performance, not gender.

By understanding the facts, you’re better prepared to approach your driving test with confidence.
Don’t let myths hold you back focus on safe and informed driving practices.

Remember, staying informed and practicing safe driving habits are key to success.

Let’s leave these myths behind and focus on what truly matters on the road.

A nice way to start the summer off for Heather, passing her driving test first time with just three minor driving faults 🥳🚗. A lovely comment from the examiner about her driving and he didn’t mention the faults so obviously not too bothered by them 😅. Really pleased for you Heather and no doubt your partner will be happy now you can share the driving 😀.
