"The Independent Garage Association (IGA) has called for an urgent meeting with the Transport Minister to escalate its campaign for an increased MOT fee cap.

The request follows a meeting on 24 September with Department for Transport (DfT) and Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) officials. The IGA highlighted rising operational costs since the fee cap was frozen in 2010, noting that garages are increasingly prioritising repair work over MOT testing, risking national testing capacity.

The association is advocating for the fee cap to rise to at least £95."

The number of approved MOT testers operating across Great Britain has climbed to almost 67,000, according to newly updated data from the Driver and New DVSA data shows MOT tester numbers have risen to 66,925 in Great Britain, while private MOT testing stations edged down to 23,092 in 2025/26.
