Yes, we know, it’s another Td5 GTB450 video, but hold on. This Td5 Defender has covered 217,000 miles on its original engine and now we're fitting our awesome GTB450 to it!

Previously Stage 2 tuned by Alive, and recently having a set of rebuilt injectors, we really wasn't expecting great results. However, although the dyno graphs weren't the usual silky smooth kind that you'd expect from Alive, it did perform rather well. We had to push it a little further than we usually would, to obtain the final results we got, but it all came together and its transformed the drivability of this Td5!

This weekend, Martyn and Chris competed in rounds 3 and 4 of the NORC Comp Safari Championship, at Pickering, North Yorkshire.

Saturday was incredibly wet, with a very slippy course and so we struggled to put a good lap together.

Sunday was better, with the sun shining and the course drying out fast! Lap one was good, but we needed to be faster, so we lined up for Lap two, ready to push on harder. Unfortunately, we pushed too hard and mid way through the lap, we rolled the car onto its roof, causing a fair bit of damage.

Disheartened and frustrated with ourselves, we knew we had to carry on, so we patched the truck up with gaffer tape and cable ties, and lined it back up for another lap.

We was of course apprehensive due to the accident, but we pushed hard and achieved our fastest lap!

Overall, this weekend was a learning curve, finding the limits of the truck as we get a firmer hold on its, and our, abilities!

It really is a privillage to work on such immaculate cars as this 1995 Discovery 300 Tdi Automatic. With super low mileage and retaining a genuine 'Factory Fresh' feel to it, this was an absolute joy to work on!

This is quite a refreshing video, so grab a cuppa, sit down and relax as Martyn, Will and Rob, drive it as it came in, tune it and then take it out on the road again to see how it performs.

Its hard to describe what a fantastic improvement our awesome Td5 GTB450 VNT turbo makes, so we've made a video to show you.

The test vehicle today is a lovely and clean Defender 90, that we tuned a few years ago. Of course, being an Alive tuned vehicle, its power delivery was impeccable and it shows in the impressive dyno figures in the early part of the video.

Having the bar set so high, means the results the GTB450 gives will be not that much higher in terms of peak numbers, but there's way more to it than that!

Join Martyn and Will as they explain the differences, both on the road in terms of how the vehicle responds with a standard turbo and then later on with our GTB450. Again, on the dyno, the chaps explain how the different turbos respond in terms of the way they build boost and how that affects the torque delivery of the engine.

The GTB450 is totally unique and really helps bring the drivablity of the Td5 up to that of a much more modern turbo diesel.

Join Martyn as he pilots the Alive Tomcat at Round 1 of the Northern Off Road Club (NORC) for a two day event at Tong, in West Yorkshire.

Overall the weekend was great with little to no issues with the truck.

This was only our second time out in the new toy so we are still very much learning how to drive it, but still finished 18th overall, out of 30 competitors.
