Side quest..

Doing some minor repairs to my parents van.

Over the last two years we have remodelled this, moving the furniture around to suit them better.

We upgraded the electric system to a renogy 30amp DC/DC charging system. But there are always a few little jobs to get done.

This week we fitted a new aerial as the last one got broken off in wind ( when they had the awning up) and also the window washers are working so I'm going to use the pump AI told me to buy as it fits their van.

Let there be light!!!

Well we have been waiting for these, for a couple of weeks and they are here and we are impressed.

Now we need to work out mounting them without damaging the truck.

I'm thinking the 5.75" on the roof on a rack up there and the 7" on the number on a bar, Baja style.

Not sure but going to have a think...

Rotational resistance..

Bearing - what makes the wheels go around.

Although we use sealed bearing in our wheels the seals can only take so much. Over time sand and mud can grind the seals down so it's worth changing these on a schedule.

Eventually they will fail and the bearing will collapse, and no one needs that on the trial.

Tractors!!!

I once tried to buy a fast track tractor for a project..

I do love tractors and it's a highlight of living in the country. This was a tractor parade we saw randomly while travelling.

Buying bikes and tragedy...

I like to think the highs and lows of life, are what shapes us.

It's not all roses and sunshine, sometimes there is heartbreak and pain.

But whether that pain comes from war, loss, or things not going to plan it's what makes us stronger, you can't build muscle without first breaking the very fibre it's built from.

Continued

Crank - the axle that has peddles each end and cog in the middle to turn peddling into motion...

When we refit the crank it's important to make sure there is plenty of grease, it stops dirt and water damaging the axle

DO NOT OVER TOGHTEN THE PINCH BOLTS

Always try the little guy..

Not only am I saving, I'm also getting a personal experience, not an on and out corporate answer. I know the job will be done correctly because for the little guy it's about reputation, not policy and profit.

To Torque or not to torque..

BB- bottom bracket is the term used for the removable bearing housing.

When fitting a threaded BB they will need to be torqued up. Torque settings maybe difficult to fit but most will be around 35-50NM.

Torque, is the applied force put through a thread when tightening it up to lock the bolt in place with out damaging the thread. These are especially important when putting steel bolts in aluminium housing.

There is a set guidelines based on bolt size and metal grade. But most manufacturers create a list where it's applied.
