Meet Hans Gruber. No, it's not that time of year yet! That is what Mr G named his E87 BMW 130i M Sport all those years ago when it was new to him. Here he is picking it up yesterday after a massive schedule of recommissioning work. 🛠️
Although we have looked after this vehicle for the last 13 years, the time had come where some significant, age-related jobs couldn't be put off any longer. The rear subframe was corroded to the point of having significant holes, the suspension arms were tired, and the engine was leaking oil from a number of gaskets that had gone brittle over time—it is 20 years old, after all!
Ethan tirelessly tackled a massive job list, including:
• A full engine seal set to stop the oil leaks
• A complete rear subframe and suspension refresh
• Brand new rear brakes including brake lines
• A host of annoying little niggles that Mr G wanted sorted while it was in the workshop
Mr G told us that people said he was mad for putting this much work into a 20-year-old car, telling him to just buy a new one. His response? "I can't buy another one of these!" 😁
He’s not wrong either. With only around 500 of these manual 130i M Sports left on UK roads, it's a seriously rare one.
