🎉 Town Garage – Celebrating 50 Years 🎉
5th August 1976 – 5th August 2026

Today we proudly celebrate 50 years of Town Garage – a journey built on hard work, family values, dedication and an unwavering commitment to looking after our customers.

It all began on 5th August 1976, when Clive and Christine Stevens took a leap of faith and purchased what was, at the time, little more than a small tin shed. They could never have imagined what that humble workshop would become.

Back in 1976, vehicle repairs were very different. Cars had carburettors instead of fuel injection, mechanical ignition systems with distributor points, very little electronics and certainly no diagnostic computers. Mechanics relied on experience, feel and listening to the engine rather than plugging into a scan tool. It was a time when hard work, practical skill and determination were everything.

While raising a young family, Clive and Christine worked tirelessly to build the business. They expanded the original workshop into the building many of you know today, creating a garage that earned a reputation for honest workmanship and genuine customer care throughout the local community.

The next chapter began when their youngest son, Craig, joined the family business at just 15 years old. Like many apprentices of the time, he learned from the ground up, developing his skills alongside the rapid evolution of the motor industry. During Craig’s career, vehicles transformed dramatically, with electronic fuel injection, engine management systems, ABS, airbags, multiplex wiring, CAN bus networks and computer-controlled systems becoming the new normal. Craig embraced these advances, investing in specialist diagnostic equipment and modern technology to ensure Town Garage stayed at the forefront of vehicle repair.

Following Clive and Christine’s retirement, Angharad (AJ) joined the business, taking responsibility for the administration and helping to modernise the customer experience behind the scenes. Together, Craig and AJ continued to invest in new equipment, new technology and the future of the business, ensuring Town Garage evolved with the ever-changing automotive industry.

In 2019 Tom joined the business after leaving school at the age of 16. Following in his father’s footsteps, Tom started as an apprentice with a passion for learning and solving complex faults.

After completing his apprenticeship, Tom undertook an intensive 18-month Advanced Diagnostic Training Programme, developing specialist skills in fault finding and vehicle diagnostics. Wanting to push himself even further, he then completed a two-year Master Technician qualification—becoming Town Garage’s first Master Technician, a proud achievement for both himself and the business.

More than three years ago, Tom took over the day-to-day running of Town Garage, allowing Craig to begin enjoying a well-earned semi-retirement. Craig now focuses mainly on developing the company’s growing online businesses, while AJ continues to manage the administration across the businesses. Tom now oversees the workshop and the continued growth of Town Garage, supported by his partner Martha, who plays an important role in developing exciting new projects for the future.

A major milestone came in 2025, when Town Garage purchased the neighbouring building to create new offices, an improved customer reception area and dedicated space for the company’s expanding online businesses—another exciting step forward from the small tin shed where it all began.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the incredible people who have worked alongside us over the years.

Our team truly are our work family. We’ve shared achievements, laughter, challenges and difficult moments together—including the heartbreaking loss of Christine, whose warmth, kindness and dedication helped shape everything Town Garage stands for today. She remains very much part of our story and will never be forgotten.

Today we’d like to recognise our fantastic team:

From a small tin shed in 1976 to the modern workshop and expanding business we are today, we’ve never forgotten the values Clive and Christine built Town Garage upon—honesty, quality workmanship and treating people properly.
