Build Breakdown | Jonny’s slammed NB drift car
It’s hard to believe, but this NB was Jonny’s first car. Not first MX-5, first car - full stop. Over the last four years, he’s transformed it from a stock 1.6 5-speed car into the VVT swapped, 6-speed drift car it is today. Virtually every part of the car has been altered or improved in some way, from the engine and gearbox through to the suspension, aero and even the paint.
It takes a serious amount of effort and commitment to totally transform a car like that in four years, but that’s not all Jonny’s been up to with this MX-5. He’s been working hard to level up his driving too, attending nine drift days in the last year alone. Nine! That’s dedication.
This car is proof that an MX-5 makes the perfect base for a seat time drift car. Not only are they super robust when they’re looked after, they can be styled in practically any way you can imagine. From the mismatched Advan and AVS wheel combo to the Garage Vary-style aero and custom drag wing, Jonny’s car is totally unique. And in a sport that’s as much about style as it is about speed and angle, that sense of individuality matters a lot.
