Build Breakdown | Emmanuelle’s showstopping NA
“My MX-5 story began back in 2003, when my mum owned a red Mk1,” says Emmanuelle. “She always said one of her regrets was selling that car. I searched for it for years, hoping I could bring it back home, but that hope eventually dimmed. After a while, I finally decided I would go out and find my own MX-5 - a ‘small project’.”
Yeah. That ‘small project’ didn’t stay small for long, did it? As you can tell, Emmanuelle has well and truly gone to town on this car, transforming it from a virtually stock example into the turbocharged, widebodied, liveried show car you see here. It has to be one of the most distinctive and spectacular Mk1s in the UK.
The Tomica livery harks back to the Skyline Super Silhouette Group 5 racer from the mid ’80s - and the NOPRO wing and aggressive widebody amplify that race-ready look. This car has the bite to match its bark too, courtesy of a 250WHP turbocharged 1.8 engine with antilag and launch control.
So far, Emmanuelle has mainly been using the car to scoop up silverware at shows across the UK, but plans to get it out on track this year to find out what it’s really capable of. We, for one, can’t wait to see this thing driven in anger.
