On the back of our last post, in the workshop also this week we had a Ford Focus with the Ecoboost engine fitted, for a routine timing belt change.
This customer was lucky as the belt was very deteriorated and would not of been long until this one would have failed and shredded its teeth!

In the workshop this week we had a Peugeot fitted with the 1.2 Pure Tech wet belt engine, had done just below 50,000 miles but because of poor servicing the timing belt had failed causing internal damage to the engine.
Genuine brand new engine fitted and this vehicle was good to go again!

Any vehicle fitted with a wet belt, it’s essential to have regular servicing with the CORRECT oil to prolong the life of the timing belt
We do lots of wet belt replacements, using genuine parts with correct tooling & specifications.

Next door in the commercial workshop, we had a Vauxhall Vivaro in with reports of strange smell when driving, white smoke and vehicle drinking AdBlue.
After an initial drive and inspection it was clear to see what the fault was, the AdBlue injector located in the exhaust had got stuck open causing AdBlue additive to be injected at an increased rate.
New injector fitted, SCR system then re-initialised, vehicle road tested, fault rectified!

Vauxhall in this week with wipers only working on high speed.
After giving the vehicle a full diagnostic scan, it revealed Can Bus communication faults to the wiper motor.
As Can Bus signals are hard to read with a normal multi meter, we used the Pico-scope to read the signals to the wiper motor, and with this we could see 3 wires had invalid communication.
Next was to trace the wiring, and eventually we found 3 wires that were corroded and broken.
Cutting out the corroded wires and making 3 new repairs, this wiper motor was back to working as it should!

The commercial workshop is looking busy today with all the ramps being utilised and the car park looking pretty full too!
From servicing, clutches, timing belts to MOT repairs it’s been all go today!
Nearly the weekend and we can all have a rest

New electric vehicle customer in this week, they were told by the main dealer that their high voltage, charge control module was faulty and complete new unit was required with a 8k price tag to repair.
Customer was ready to scrap their car, but was recommended to come to us, after investigating the problem and confirming what the dealer diagnosed, we removed the complete power motor and charge unit, dismantled and identified the internal component at fault, sourced new part, re-assembled and problem fixed.
£1756.34 was the final bill!
We find this far too often with electric vehicles, repairs can be made rather than new units being fitted!

Vehicle in today with a clutch fault, reports that it will slip and judder at times.
After a road test we could tell there was certainly something not right with the clutch.
After removing the gearbox and clutch assembly we found one side of the clutch plate lining to have come de-attached, it was a miracle it still drove!

Today in the commercial site was wet belt Wednesday!
Timing belt completed on a large Ford Transit van and sealants left to dry overnight to ensure no leaks occur!
We do lots of these now using genuine Ford parts to ensure original quality and longevity!

As the cold weather hits us, glow plugs in a diesel are essential for helping get the engine started! 🥶
On occasions when replacing these, they can break in the cylinder head potentially causing an expensive repair where the cylinder head has to be removed for them to be drilled out and extracted!
Here at Lushington Motors, we have the specialist tooling to prevent that and can overcome such repair, with a little bit of “time, patience & skill” we can do this with the cylinder head still on.
We often carry out this specialist repair for other garages who get stuck!
