Let's talk DPFs.

Here we have an unlucky customer. When we inspected the DPF with our camera, it looks like all is ok, who ever done this was slightly clever. Even though we could see the filter, our suspicions were correct, more investigating found the cut marks, hidden behind the heat shield, see the photos below, can you tell which DPF was faulty and which one was tampered with? This car went through a police test without this being seen.This car has now failed its emissions test and will not pass an mot without a new DPF. Here's the catch, its not just a DPF, the vehicle software has been "mapped" so instead of cleaning the DPF, or replacing at the time, a £300 delete has been offered. Car has been sold. Now this customer is looking at a £1500 bill PLUS and estimated £450 to have the correct software reinstalled.

You've all probably heard of them by now. If a DPF has been fitted from the factory, it is a legal requirement to keep this system fitted to the car. YOU can receive a fine of upto £1000, if YOU have a van, upto £2500. For our business to offer DPF "deletes" the fines can be unlimited, if we were a registered mot station? Mot station shut down.

Let's say you took that cheap "fix" and had the DPF deleted. Now your insurance is invoid. Now your car is producing and releasing harmful emissions into the atmosphere. Your turbo is designed to work with the DPF fitted, you may increase turbo wear. If you get pulled over for a random check and the DVSA finds your DPF to be missing or tampered with, your car will be issued with a PG9 notice, car off of the road immediately.

Next year, there is a very high chance new testing will be coming into place to crack down on these DPF deletes and software tampering. If you have been affected, and want to have your vehicle put back upto scratch sooner rather than later, give us a shout. We can install your new dpf, and have any software put back to the way it should be. You can expect DPF prices to rise rapidly next year, people are already holding onto units to make more money off of them next year. So if you see this now is your opertunity to have it fixed before costs sky rocket.

Some good news!!

From the 1st of October we are extending our operations and opening a new, second workshop. This will be our fast fit and tyre centre. This will be for suspension, brakes, tyres, battery replacements and diagnostic plug ins. This is so when you have an issue and don't have time to wait, you can just drop in and and we'll get you sorted no appointment required. Bigger and more complicated jobs will still need booked into the main workshop as they normally are now. Hope you're all excited, and we'd appreciate if any of you can spread the word far and wide. With this new move, you can expect to see some new and friendly faces joining the business soon.

In amongst all the chaos, I did get a spare half an hour to build this little guy for my step son and was really happy with how it turned out, always wanted to build a little something like this out of old car parts. Might make some more for the garage next!
