Another one completed recently for Neil, his newly purchased Ascot grey T6.1 Kombi came into us for a whole host of upgrades supplied by us.

First off we swapped out the standard anti roll bars for the H&R kit, a much loved upgrade here , the van feels more like a sporty car after these are fitted.
Then came the NXT + coilover kit from KW / Solow Suspension which closed up the unsightly arch gap , and again tightened up the vans handling and comfort in ways you’d have never thought possible for a commercial vehicle .
The final touch was a set of Navis GP7 20 inch wheels and tyres.

All work carried and completed here at Autobahn.

Currently taking bookings for mid March , we look forward to speaking to you about your next upgrade or maybe just service work and repairs.

Autobahn 2025 Christmas opening times.

Friday 19th December 2025 will be our last day and we will then reopen on Monday January 5th 2026, we won’t be taking or retrieving messages during this time.

January 2026 is already filling up fast and we are well into the 3rd week of the month for appointments.

We would like to take this time to say a huge thank you to everyone that has supported us throughout this year.

Nice to have a Mk1 GTi back in the workshop for some repair work. Full refurb on the rear brakes, shoes ,cylinders, drums and bearings , some hard lines, full set of flexi hoses and a tune up, lovely!

We are now closed for a much needed summer holiday.

Another set of NXT plus fitted to a freshly purchased California, customer wanted the van to sit under 2M for garage clearance and the all important car park barriers especially in France for summer vacations.

We took 65mm from the total ride height and improved the handling and comfort no end with this, the latest adjustable coilover set from Transporter HQ. Even with the awning still fitted the total height of the vehicle now sits at 1945mm.

All transporter hq coilover kits come with a 2 year warranty when fitted by the solo network which we are proud to be a part off

Sorry we've not updated the page in a long while , we've been head down and plowing through the workload and trying to reduce the lead time for bookings.

We are currently 4-6 weeks in advance so please remember that when planning your service/repair or MOT with us.

If your considering suspension upgrades, please be aware some kits are in and out of stock quite frequently and the best way to secure your kit and booking is to plan a good 6 weeks in advance, we will then make a brief appointment to talk through options and availability. This time of year is especially busy and don't forget all Solow/Transporter HQ suspension kits come with a 2 year warranty if supplied and fitted by a THQ approved installer.

Last job of the year, it had to be didn’t it…one of the very last T6.1 Transporters fresh from the dealers for fitment of the latest coilover kits from So Low and KW.

In recently at Autobahn was this lovely 1983 Golf GTI which had been suffering from a poor cold start and generally poor running masked by a high idle speed.

For this car we rebuilt the warm up regulator, repaired some wiring, cleaned and reset the aux air valve and replaced some split vac hoses before reseting the fuelling ,idle and timing.

Thoroughly enjoyable job with a great result and now back with the owner ready to enjoy.

This photo was taken from a 2016 2.0TDI that had covered just short of 60,000 miles from new, the debris at the bottom of the cover is the Cambelt that had broken away and delaminated, the belt now considerably thinner was under tensioned and pretty close to a very costly disaster.

VW have recently advised customers with this engine (2.0 TDI) that the belt interval is now 120-140,000 miles and we couldn't disagree more strongly.

We still advise 6 years or 60,000 miles as the max interval for all timing belts and water pumps (The electric pump on this particular vehicle was already leaking with a seized sleeve on the impeller).

If you do decide to run the risk of extending your intervals to beyond this and you do have a failure, please pop down to your local VW dealer with your life savings as we won't be getting involved 👍

Somehow we forgot to mention that Tuesday (October 1st) was 11 years to the day that we opened the doors here at Autobahn. I have no idea where the time has gone but wanted to say a huge Thank you to everyone who has supported and recommended us over those 11 years.
