Kel-Berg Trailers & Trucks Ltd has been a name present in the UK market since back in the mid eighties. Firstly based down in Harwich, so as to effectively feed the export market into main land Europe. As the market changed Kel-Berg relocated to its purpose built offices and workshop in its current central location in Oxfordshire, with access to three international airports, direct rail and road networks making it easy for our customers to reach us. The team at Kel-Berg has been in place for many years and have experience in a cross section of transport sectors. During the years Kel-Berg has kept ahead with the changes in UK and European markets and adapted to continually stock and offer the products and service which our clients ask for.

2015 & 2016 saw Kel-Berg investing and improving its facilities in the form of a drive through DVSA authorised testing lane and an IVA lane, enabling us to offer a complete on site solution. We have also extended our five bay workshop to eight bays which will enable us to offer our new body supply and fitting facility. So far in 2017 the investment continues with another 5 bays and more Whole Vehicle Type Approvals as well as research and development going on behind the scenes.

O'Donovan's new skip loaders are done, delivering skips, and collecting waste. Both are Boughton's PR18 18 ton skip loader, mounted on DAF's XBC 260 4x2 automatic chassis cab.

DAF's XBC chassis platform really is a great option if you're looking at 18 ton skip equipment. If the last DAF you drove was an LF with the 6-speed manual or the AS Tronic, the XBC's 8-speed PowerLine automatic will feel like a different truck.

Those older gearbox both operated with a clutch, so every time you change gear, the clutch opens and torque is briefly lost. PowerLine has no clutch to open. It hands over from one gear to the next without ever losing drive, so the truck keeps pulling through every change. With eight gears instead of six, the steps between them are smaller too. The result is quick, smooth changes that feel much more like driving a car.

For skips, where your tackling junctions, traffic lights, tight streets, customers' driveways, constant start stop all day, this is ideal.

We've been working with Mead for over 10 years, supplying grabs for their operation in Cambridge, and its been a pleasure to supply them with this new DAF XDC 450 FAD 8x4 complete with our grab loader installation.

This Volvo FMX 420 8x4 is unmistakably part of the SCB Oxford Ltd fleet. Fitted with our grab installation and Palfinger Epsilon crane, and a custom cab and body wrap, it certainly looks the part.

But when you're investing in branding and livery so that your equipment is recognisable on the road, its not enough that it looks great on day one, especially now that businesses are running vehicles longer from new.

Worn out, tired, rusty equipment is bad news, both in how its perceived by your potential customers, and by potential buyers when you come to sell.

Something that looks neglected creates an impression that is difficult to shake, even if all the parts you can't see are well maintained and it is purely cosmetic.

It's why we've spent a lot of time building rust protection and durability into our equipment as standard, including our grabs. Smiths of Bletchington is a family-owned quarry company that's been operating across Oxfordshire for around 125 years. They've just taken delivery of two new Kel-Berg aggregate trailers and a DAF XDC 450 8x4 complete with their first Kel-Berg steel body, all fitted with liners.

We went out to their quarry near Ardley to see the equipment at work and speak to Paul Needle, Smiths' Fleet Manager of 21 years, about trying a new supplier on their doorstep.

Cosmin had been a driver for Heidelberg for nearly a decade and decided, like many other drivers, that he wanted to start his own business, running his own mixers, as a franchisee.

He came to us in 2025 looking for his first mixer truck. Because we had a DAF with a 9m³ McPhee in stock, it was really no time at all before he was up and running with his first mixer.

How much safety equipment do you think gets fitted on to a tipper truck?

Often this depends on where you're driving and who you're driving for. If its for a large franchise fleet, then it often ends up being quite a lot.

5/6 way AI camera systems, side scan systems, beacon bars, chapter 8 markings, overhead voltage detectors, and body raised warnings are just some of the extras you'll need to organise the fitting of.

Some people think all this is a nuisance, others think it genuinely improves site and road safety. All we know is you have to have it to operate for these businesses.
