After a long spell of dry weather, the first rainfall can create some of the most hazardous driving conditions of the year.

Why? Because oil, fuel residue, rubber and dirt build up on the road surface during dry periods. When it first rains, these contaminants mix with the water, creating a slippery film before they’re washed away.

That means:
⚠️ Longer stopping distances
⚠️ Reduced grip in corners
⚠️ Increased risk of skidding
⚠️ Higher chance of aquaplaning if your tyres are worn

If the roads suddenly turn wet after weeks of sunshine, take it easy:

Hot weather puts your tyres under more stress than you might think.

Think your air conditioning is working? Here's a quick way to find out.

With the engine running, set your air conditioning to its coldest setting, close the windows and let it run for around 5 minutes. Then place a thermometer in one of the centre vents.

🌡️ A healthy system should typically blow air below 10°C.

If it's warmer than that, your air conditioning may be:

Low on refrigerant
Losing efficiency
Due a re-gas
Developing a fault that needs investigating

Don't just check the level - check the condition.
