New driving test booking rules take effect
From today (Tuesday 12 May 2026), the rules about who can book and manage car driving tests have changed.

This email brings together links to all the recent guidance and updates we've published into one place.

End of the road for unofficial driving test booking services

It's now against the law for third parties, including unofficial test booking and cancellation finder services, to make bookings for someone else.

It's also a breach of DVSA’s new terms and conditions for the booking service for third parties to change, swap or cancel a driving test for someone else.

Manage your availability to take your pupils to driving tests

As an ADI, you can set times you are available to take your pupils to car driving tests to stop your pupils from booking tests at other times. Your availability is also automatically blocked out when a pupil books a test using your reference number.

If we detect that someone’s driving licence number is being used in a way that breaches our new terms and conditions, we can restrict their access to book and manage their driving test online.

This new guidance is about how your pupils will know if it’s happened to them, what their options are, and how they can ask for a review of the decision.

Are you ready for the upcoming changes to the driving test booking system?
Getting ready for 12 May driving test booking changes
On 7 May we ran a question and answer session on the upcoming changes to the rules for booking a driving test.

We had over 200 approved driving instructors on the webinar. We know that not everyone could attend on the day, so like the previous webinar we are posting a blog post to give you the details of what was discussed.

This event followed on from a previous session that many driving instructors, due to technical issues, were unable to join.
