As the weather starts to brighten up, we’re sure many of you will be thinking of getting the caravan hitched up.
Make sure you show your caravan and trailer some TLC:
🛞 Tyres: check your air pressure, tread and condition and replace them if needed
⚖️ Load: check the weight of your load, and make sure its evenly distributed
🔗 Connection: check the trailer is securely connected, and the breakaway cable is correctly fitted

For new drivers, this month could be the first time you make a long trip. Make sure you’re prepared by:

- Making sure your car is roadworthy – check your fuel, tyres and lights before you head off
- Planning your route and know which junctions you'll use
- Making time for breaks – at least 15 minutes every 2 hours
- Checking the forecast for any weather warnings
- Reading Highway Code rules 253-274 – these have everything you need on joining motorways, overtaking and staying at a steady speed

Go the extra mile – read more here 👇

Did you know that the weather can affect the pressure of the air in your car’s tyres?🌡️

Changing temperatures can affect the pressure by up to 2psi.

Now the weather is getting warmer, it’s even more important to check their pressures so they’re correctly inflated.

Look in your vehicle handbook or inside the door pillar if you’re not sure what it should be.✅

And keeping the pressure correct will help your tyres last longer and give better mileage for your fuel.✅

Rule 107 of the Highway Code states DVSA officers have the power to stop vehicles on all GB roads, including motorways and trunk roads. They will attract your attention by flashing amber lights

- either from the front requesting you to follow them to a safe place to stop

- or from behind directing you to pull over to the side by pointing and/or using the left indicator.

It is an offence not to comply with their directions. You must obey any signals given.

Your MOT shows your vehicle passed the standards on the test date, but we know wear and tear doesn't wait for your next appointment.

A regular check can catch issues on your car before they become dangerous.

Keep an eye on:
• Tyre pressure and tread
• Fluid levels
• Windscreen wipers
• Brake performance
• Lights and indicators

🥶Is it feeling chilly where you are?

Some areas are experiencing low temperatures with yellow weather warnings in force for ice and snow in various parts of the country. ⚠️

Make sure you're prepared:
✅When temperatures drop, be sure to check your tyre pressures - which are likely to fall in cold weather. You can find your recommended pressures in your vehicle's manual.
✅Clear your windscreen fully before travelling - this includes ice and debris.
✅While you're cleaning, give your number plate a wipe - it must be clearly visible when you're on the road.
