JZ Fest report and 1supra update.
So after drag challenge last year we knew we had a hurt gearbox. Now everyone will say should have put a glide in or an 8hp etc etc. But that gearbox had been in the car for 4-5years and still managed a 9second average over 5 days at drag challenge while being in average condition.
We sent it off to Mike for a recondition and to get the convertor cut open and cleaned as well. The main cause of the failure was a broken snap ring on one of the pistons inside the box (it still drove from home to the shop the day we pulled it out)
We got the box back 2 days before jz fest. Threw it in the car and gave the car a service and we were ready to go racing.
We decided to take the car in full drag and drive spec with the little dinky drag n drive trailer and drive the 200 odd kms to Warwick dragway.
First pass of the day we turned it down to 25psi as Tara haddnt been behind the wheel in about 6 months and let it go. Straight to a 9.80
2nd qualifier we turned the boost back up a little to 29psi and bam new pb for the car 9.54
As we were racing in a 9.50 index class we decided to leave it there to go racing.
Round 1 we ended up against Andy Cole from Spot on. Bit of driver error on the tree meant a slow 60ft and a first round loss with a 9.8x to a 9.6x
Round 2 was a bit of an untidy race but we got the win light and ran a 9.9x
Round 3 we knew with a win and a loss we wouldn't make the final so we turned up the launch rpm, the shift points and the boost and swung for it. The 3 year old said no and Tara had to pedal it and still ran through for a 9.9x pass
For a fairly basic package in a 1500kg car it definitely punches well above what it should do.
Next event will be in July running in a 10.50 index class so we need to slow it up a bit and go have some fun.
