This Mk4 R32 came to me early this year rather I'll, terminally I'll. After tearing it down I established that the engine was too badly damaged to repair and the next best option was either making a BUB Mk5 engine work which I was prepared to do or a MK4 engine. Long story short whilst waiting on delivery my new career role presented itself and this made things interesting.
I made a promise to this client that I'll drive out of my workshop before I finish up . Here is a video pretty much a day before the big move. I'm a stubborn bu**er so it had to happen.

It's fair to say next guy doing cambelt kit on this will have a fair idea who's been in there before 😉

Have a VW Tiguan 2.0tdi in for some scheduled stuff and client suggested it could be up for its cam belt replacement. I'm so glad he suggested it as there was a ticking time bomb going on. Catastrophe averted. It's only 3 extra bolts to change the water pump. And when the timing gear is all undressed it's very accessible so there's zero excuse.

Here is the reason why I'll still continue to rebuild DSG gearboxes as a side hustle once I'm settled in my new position. Why? I was already competent at rebuilding transmissions so all I did then was learn and understand how the mechatronic units worked with both wet and dry clutch applications. Having seen a gazillion scenarios I established that they fail in 1 of 3 ways. That's where the knowledge kicks in. It's just so easy for places to call it a bad mechatronic unit and it's unnecessary. Enjoy the clip.

Well people this post is going to be a bit different from the rest. I'll cut to the chase, I've recently been head hunted for a position in Automotive Forensics which I have accepted. I've actually found the decision to accept easier than I thought. Let me explain. I still enjoy repairing these motor cars especially the ones that others struggle to but to be honest I been starting to struggle with the actual volume, not being able to get back to people on time teats strip's off me as I do actually want to help everyone and I honestly loath seeing people people being ripped off and the level
of skill out there is really scary
I had told myself this year i need to make some changes and perhaps get into something else but being so busy ive found myself at July not actively looking due to being so busy i had just resorted to the fact that im stuck and thought oh well lets plan the next ten years as I'm stuck so deal with it.
Then out of the blue knock on the door and here we are.
So I'll take the opportunity to thank you all very very much for the custom and support it's highly appreciated. If you are booked with me the next couple of weeks all is well and there a couple of limited spots left.

I've actually enjoyed posting up my case studies of the curly ones. So I'm going to continue to do so, I have a stack to upload yet and with my new role there will be plenty and I'll have plenty of my own. I'll likely change this pages name slightly just to deflect it from business to professional/enthusiast.

When someone says couple of shops have tried to rectify it I'm like a dog with a bone. R36 has been sitting a while and the tyre pressure monitoring light is on. The hold the button down reset doesn't put light out and all tyres are at correct pressures. The R36 has actual sensors in each wheel and when sat for a while they go into sleep mode to preserve battery life. The trick then is to drop all 4 tyres to zero, wait for 10mins and reinflate. Recycle ignition and roadtest. Boom light out. Product knowledge goes a long long way.

The Non res Jetex system has a nice hum. These 12v Vr6 engines sound so much better than the 24v in my opinion.

Finally got round to hooking up my exhaust and replace the bad alternator for a higher output one. Ac delete and serpentine belt to suit. Just been so flat out at the workshop. Hearing it now gives me the incentive to push the project along. 😃

The kindness is so humbling. I was only doing my job. So much gratitude for that kind gesture. Oh and they are so yum!
