Founded by ex-army mechanic Joel, Rockhampton Mobile Mechanic has grown from a one-man operation into a dedicated team of skilled mechanics, apprentices and admin staff. All servicing and repairs are available to be done at a time and place that is convenient for you, whether that be at home or in the workshop. 🔧🚗 THINK IT'S A BIG PROBLEM? IT MIGHT BE SOMETHING MUCH SIMPLER! 👀

Have you ever heard a strange noise or noticed something wrong with your vehicle and immediately thought the worst? 😬

It's easy to assume a major component has failed, but sometimes the actual cause is much smaller — and potentially much cheaper to fix!

🔍 A REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE FROM OUR WORKSHOP

A customer suspected their turbo was faulty due to a whistling noise when accelerating. They decided to replace the entire turbocharger, expecting that would solve the problem.

But even after a full turbo replacement, the original whistling noise was still there! 😳

After further diagnostic work at our workshop, we identified the actual issue as a faulty turbo boost solenoid valve — a much smaller component that helps control the operation of the turbo.

Unfortunately, replacing the turbo hadn't fixed the problem, leaving the customer with the additional cost of the turbo replacement, followed by further diagnostic work, labour and repairs to resolve the original issue.

💡 SO, WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM THIS?

A problem that seems major could be caused by a relatively small component. Without proper diagnosis, you could end up spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars replacing parts that weren't the cause of the problem in the first place.

We know that sometimes a roadworthy inspection can uncover things you weren’t expecting — and we understand it can be frustrating when your vehicle doesn’t pass.

But there’s a very important reason we don’t cut corners, overlook defects or “let things slide.”

A roadworthy inspection is about vehicle safety — not simply getting a piece of paper so the vehicle can be registered or sold.

When we inspect a vehicle, we take the time to thoroughly check the components that affect its safety and roadworthiness, including:

🛑 Brakes & braking components
🔧 Steering & suspension
💡 Lights & indicators
🛞 Tyres & wheels
🔩 Mechanical components
👀 Visibility & safety equipment
🚗 Body & structural condition

🔧 WHY WE PROVIDE ESTIMATES — NOT QUOTES 🔧

Here’s a perfect example of why mechanical work can sometimes be difficult to put an exact price or timeframe on before we get into the job.

We recently had a job that was expected to be around a 2-hour job. Sounds straightforward, right? 👀

Unfortunately, once we got into it, we discovered a seized glow plug.

What should have been a relatively quick job turned into 2 days of careful work to remove the seized component without causing further damage to the engine.

This is exactly why we provide ESTIMATES rather than fixed quotes for many mechanical repairs.

⚙️ The reality of mechanical work:

Some problems aren't visible until parts are removed.
Components can be seized, corroded or damaged.
Older vehicles can present unexpected issues.
Removing a seized component can require additional time and specialised techniques.
Forcing a part out can sometimes cause significantly more expensive damage.

Our goal isn't to make a job take longer or add unnecessary costs. It's to diagnose the problem properly, communicate with the customer and do the job correctly.

When unexpected issues arise, we'll keep you informed and discuss the options before proceeding with additional work wherever possible.

💡 An estimate is our best assessment based on what we can see at the time — but sometimes the vehicle has other plans!
