Christmas plans coming together? Don't forget about the 4WD!

Whether you're heading to the coast, towing the van or packing up for a family road trip, it's worth making sure your vehicle is ready before you leave.

With the Rocky summer heat, extra luggage and a few more kilometres on the road, the last thing you want is to discover something needs attention right before your holiday.

If your service is coming up, getting it organised early gives you time to sort out anything that might need attention before you head away.

A little preparation now can make for a much better start to the Christmas break.

Planning some Christmas travel? Give us a call or text on 0482 096 686 to arrange your service.

979 barramundi in two and a half days. We had to read that one twice!

The 2026 Garmin Fitzroy River Barra Bash has wrapped up for another year and the Fitzroy well and truly showed off. It beat last year’s record of 764 by 215 fish, with 241 of them over the metre mark, and threw in another 107 king threadfin salmon for good measure. No wonder registrations sold out in under 24 hours back in July.

We were proud to back the Barra Bash again in its ninth year, and Nathan and Nyree Johnson were there to hand over one of the prizes. Congratulations to all the winners, and a big thank you to Frenchville Sports Club Ltd, the volunteers and everyone who gives up their time to make it run the way it does. It brings people to Rocky from right across the country, and that’s good for a lot of local businesses, ours included.

So, bring on the 10th next year. Rocky really is the Home of the Big Barra.

Hooking up the van changes what you're asking your 4WD to do.

More weight. More load. And a very different job compared with the everyday run around Rocky.

That's why ECU remapping for towing isn't just about chasing more power.

Your vehicle, its condition, your setup and what you're actually towing all matter.

The aim is to get the tune right for the way you actually drive.

Our tuning is validated through road datalogging, so we're looking at how the vehicle performs out on the road, where it actually matters.

You don’t always see the things that need attention from the driver’s seat.

With the Rocky heat on its way, now’s a good time to think about how your 4WD is travelling before summer really settles in.

Cooling system, fluids, tyres, air con and the bits underneath doing their job every day. If something feels different, sounds different or your service is coming up, it’s worth paying attention to it.

A little maintenance now can go a long way when the temperature starts climbing.

Oil is cheap insurance. Looking after the basics matters.

Call or text us on 0482 096 686 if you’d like us to have a look.

So, the rig’s running sweet after its last service, but every time you walk past it in the driveway it still looks a bit stock.

So, if you’ve been looking at your 4WD and thinking it needs a bit more stance, or the tyres are getting tired anyway, we can look after the whole lot. On the tyre side that’s Yokohama and Federal, and for wheels we do Loaded 4x4, Fuel, KMC and Black Rhino.

Getting it right is more than picking a wheel that looks good, too. Load rating, offset and tyre size all have to suit your rig and the way you actually drive it, and that’s the part we sort out with you before anything is ordered.

Give us a call or pop into Lucas Street and we’ll talk through what’ll suit your setup.

A week without your car wears you down pretty quick.

Ali had been without hers for a week, couldn't get to work, and by her own account was "stressed as and ripping my hair out". What stood out to me reading her review is that the first thing she talks about isn't the fix at all. It's our front desk, and how nice they were to deal with on a rough week.

So, thanks Ali for taking the time to write that. And thanks to our front desk, because really this one's about them.

If your car's giving you grief, call or text us on 0482096686.

I spend a lot more time behind the wheel of the Patrol than I do lying underneath it, and I reckon you're the same. So most of the time the first sign something wants a look isn't a warning light. It's just that the car feels a bit different to last week.

A few things worth keeping an eye on between services. A brake pedal that feels softer or goes down further than it used to, or the car pulling to one side when you brake. A steering wheel that isn't sitting straight, or you correcting it more than you used to. A new clunk, hum or shake that turns up at a certain speed. And drips where you park, because the colour tells us a fair bit.

You don't need to know what it is. You just need to notice that it's new, because you know how your 4WD normally drives better than anyone.

Mention it to your mechanic next time it's in, even if it comes and goes. If you'd rather it was us, we're on Lucas Street, or call or text 0482 096 686.

More power sounds good.

But when you're towing a van, heading off-road or halfway through a long trip, there's something you'll appreciate a whole lot more: a 4WD you can rely on. 🚙

That's why we don't look at ECU tuning as a numbers game.

The vehicle, its condition, how you drive it and what you actually need from it all matter.

Sometimes tuning makes sense. Sometimes there's something else we'd rather sort out first.

Because the goal isn't to build the biggest number on a screen. It's to help you get the right setup for the way you actually use your 4WD.

Reliable first. Performance where it counts.
